Evening folks. I feel I really screwed the pooch on this application cycle. Applying early was pretty crucial for my application given my odd stats, yet here I am still sitting on my primary.

Been a terrible summer so far. Living in a financial crisis, working 60-70hrs a week, a whole other mess of things. I'm finalizing my primary right now, and not even sure it's that good. If I'm lucky I can submit it by Monday, 8/6.

Problem with my application is my uGPA is a 2.8. Granted, I have a 520+ MCAT and a 4.0 in a SMP but my undergrad is already severely holding me back and now I feel with this late application I'm just going to be throwing money away. On the same note, if I wait to apply next year that's just another year of being burdened by my loans and financial predicament lol.

Should I still submit my primary? Any words of encouragement or advice? I'll take anything at this point.
This is not what you probably want to hear, but I would suggest you don't throw it in to the application pool this late. Take the next year to work and save up some $$, pay down your debt, do a little volunteering on the weekends, and approach the application next year in a calm state of mind. Your work this year in the SMP and your great MCAT score will still be good, and you can jump in to the cycle in June next time for a better chance at success.

Thanks for the advice. Would you say the same if my top choices are my state schools, which have non rolling admissions (I contacted one and at least according to the person I talked to they said I would be fine if I was complete because Oct 1st) and that the school I did my SMP in I get a guaranteed interview?

I really do not want to wait another year if I have to. I'm already a nice decent bit older than the average med student.

-So not waiting another year over your chances of ever being a doctor? Which is more important?
-On average, 60% of the people who apply, get rejected and you are way below average
-And just how old are you? If you havent hit 30 you are still a kid in this process
-So what is your ultimate goal?

Pay careful attention: It's not about hte cGPA anymore. it's about the SMP. ther eare MD schools (and all DO) that reward reinvention.

So get your app out right now!!!

I suggest:
Your state schools
Columbia
Duke
NYU
Vandy
UCSF
Mayo
Pitt
BU
Hofstra
Case
Dartmouth
Drexel
NYMC
U Miami
Albany
Netter
GWU
Gtown
Wayne State
EVMS
Wake
SLU
Tulane
tufts
Any DO school (and yes, you need DO schools on the list)

The way you came across in this particular post (harried, worried, putting yourself down, saying your statement is not good, saying you have had a horrible year) in contrast to your past posts in which you seemed more upbeat, was the main reason I think you should wait. I have no clue if your letters are ready, if you have done any volunteering or shadowing, etc. Going in to an interview in this frame of mind will not help sell you as a candidate.

I think you should apply you have really good stats.. I attended the Osteopathic virtual med school symposium and they advised students that end of August early October would be considered late for DO and were encouraging students to still submit their primary apps
