It may sound cruel but sometimes you just really aren't meant to be a doctor and need to consider other things in life. Applying more then twice is trying to find a loophole in the system.

Seeing as I only applied once, I assume that isn't directed at me.

Nope it wasn't. I only applied once and only planned on applying once. I had a horrible GPA, so if my other things didn't get me in it wasn't worth the extra years to boost my GPA. I already had been out of collge for quite sometime. I had plans to move on with my life to other things.

Not if you are continually striving to better yourself. Some people lack the maturity in their undergrad (mine lasted until the end of my sophomore year) to have foresight. Thus, if they work hard over the subsequent years to improve GPA or MCAT performance and feel that medicine is their calling, who are you to judge them (and me)?!

This comment is completely and utterly ruthless and if you are going to be a compassionate physician, you better come to grips with your pretentions.

GPA 2.75 MCAT 30.

I had a horrible first two years of college. My point that seemed to be missed is if you aren't close to getting in the first time you apply you shouldn't apply. You should wait till you have an application that will be considered by admissions staff. There is very little you can do year after year of applying that will better your application and every time you apply more and more schools will stop considering you. I said two times because you can ask admissions office what you need to do to improve. There are some people who are on their third and fourth even fifth time applying. They are either hoping to find a flaw in the system. SOmetimes you need to take a hint. This process is not as random as some will claim. I applied to 14 schools total (allo and osteo) got into 5 (allo and osteo) choose the best one I got into.

If you thought these comments were ruthless get over it. Just wait until an attending or two tear you a new one. Its part of the learning experience. Some people are not cut out to be doctors. Peoples lives are at stake. Heck I wanted to be a baseball player, I just can't throw or hit. Things don't always work out the way we want But In the end I will make a good doctor.

Just bc many members of the medical community at large have tossed professionalism out the door in favor of frightening lesser physicians, this does not mean that this should necessarily be the standard-- Nor should it be cited as an excuse for your lack of consideration.

In years past, thousands of deaths have occurred because attendings overwork their residents. Are you thus able to argue that the wisdom of said professionals is immutable?

Do not perpetuate negative aspects of society if you can help it. I beg you. As a physician, people look up to you. In becoming a doctor, it is essential that you examine your role not only as a healer but as a model of what it is to be a citizen.

At any rate, and on a realistic level -- you are right. It is important to understand that there WILL be people in the world who say things regardless of its perceived impact. I'm just saying that judging others based on their pursuit of their goal (even if it is inadvisable) is probably not something that shoudl be so broadly done. Sweeping generalizations about individuals aspirations are never going to be well-received. Perhaps I was pissed by it bc I am a little tense over this whole process, but I just wanted to point out that you should choose your words carefully.

And you're right -- you probably will be a great physician. I would never claim otherwise... but I do think that you should work on your callousness.
