Three tries to get a 30+ MCAT, but with a red flag?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Go for it! There are people who take it 4-5 times and have gotten into MD schools. You can try for some of the low tier MD schools also.

From my perspective, that second MCAT looked like bad luck. Just don't retake that exam whatever your do.

You're a shoo in for any DO school. Good shot at MD too

a 4 will likely be seen as a fluke. i'm not an ADCOM or anything, but to me it looks like maybe you just didn't study enough between the first and second. then you got your stuff together and increased all 3 scores across the board. i'd say the 4 was a fluke.. did you not feel anywhere close to a 4 on your second? just wondering why you didn't void (i'm guessing it didn't feel as bad as a 4)

i don't have any doubt you would be able to get in any DO school without a regional preference (unless you are in their region). and you likely have a chance at some MD schools as well.

Looks like a bad day or fluke on the second one considering the first was 27.

DO ADCOMS do not average the scores I believe.. they usually take the latest score if I'm not mistaken.

Obviously they are not all filled in, not much I can do there. I would say that your best bet is to contact the school and ask how they view multiple retakes (average, best, most recent, or superscore). That is the best way to get the most accurate information. There does not appear to be anything on their website, at least that I could find.

I've taken the MCAT three times and it has been one unusual, yet ultimately fulfilling journey.

First MCAT in 2013 - 27 (8+ each section)
Second MCAT in 2014 - 23 (w/ a 4 in verbal..)
Third MCAT in 2014 - 32 (10+ each section)

Now my second and third MCAT were taken 3 months apart. I would love some advice as to how my odds are for the top D.O schools if I apply right now and if this drastic drop/rise in MCATs is something I should worry about (as some schools average MCAT scores).

All advice is welcome and appreciated! Side note - GPA above 3.7
you have favorable chances applying broadly to MD, although it is getting late. Apply to whatever DO schools you want. Some good choices include Rowan, NSU, KCUMB, DMU, COMP, UNE, and PCOM.

Some schools average, some take the most recent, some superscore (take your best score from each section). Pick your schools based on which ones do which.

The majority take the best try, some take most recent, others take best composite.

Thank you my friend!

Pretty much. A 3.7+ and 32 is good enough for mid-tier MD schools, is it not?

I believe it depends if it was your first time scoring a 32 or, in my case, your third time scoring a 32. The latter probably will not be able to get into a mid-tier MD.
