The problem that I see here is one of greed. The original questions was pick 2 songs...all time favorites.

I think it brings up an interesting question, though. What makes a song good enough to be considered an all time favorite? Is it catchiness...one you can't get out of your head? Technical or musical prowess like we hear in the songs with the sick solos? Is it some combination of the two? Or is it something that is indefinable?

It's also interesting to see a lot of rock and metal fans on here. I read an article somewhere in the past few months about how metal was the fastest growing genre of music worldwide, and it is being found in some unexpected places like Africa, China and the Middle East.

Aren't there any Beliebers on here? Come on, don't hide...:ninja:

Lots of Metallica fans here (I am one too). While not my favorite song of all time I'm gonna throw out "Nothing Else Matters" as my favorite Metallica track.

Its hard to compare across different styles, so Ill throw out 2:

I'll show my age here and say my favorite "modern" song is "Pursuit of Happiness" - Kid Cudi.
For an old song I'd say I love "Clair de Lune" the most.

For me its the emotions associated with the track. That trumps most everything.

Great guitar solos posted. Those folks have played guitar for as many hours as @urge has done anesthesia, which is a long time, because he's getting on up there in years. Jk.

They are virtuosos. Shredders are fun to watch for about 10 minutes, and then I'm ready for something else. Sweeps look and sound cool.

An interesting solo....

Bring on the Yngwie Malmsteen

Time to revive this thread!

Here's my contribution to cool songs with guitar solos (action starts around 2:40, but the rest of the song is pretty sweet also).

tool- Lateralus

From autumn to ashes - placentapede

Havent checked this site in a couple of years. Was trolling through threads. Noninvasive monitors havent helped me much but for paralyzed people on the vent in sinus with RR 12 and vt of 10cc/kg then it has its place....so basically never.

Anyways:
Floyd: Fearless
Daft Punk: Digital Love

Vote for Yoda! Wise he is.

Lotta good songs listed. Surprised by all the love for 'no quarter,' best Zeppelin song for me has always been 'since I been loving you'--so much soul in that song.
My favourite guitar intro/fills/solo is SIBLY off of TSRTS. Ive spent most of my life trying to cop Pagey's tone and playing on that performance. I wore out my VHS copy of that concert.
