time frame for registering for test?

When is it appropriate to register for Step I if you're planning on taking it in late June? What if the specific date is important -- should you register early? And when is early? Sorry, I can't find this info anywhere.

Hey... I've found the USMLE registration process to be a bit tedious... before you even can apply for a test date and location, you have to put down $455.00 and fill out a preliminary application... and then on top of that, go get a picture of yourself taken... and have THAT signed and stamped (verified) by your school before you can mail it to them.

I imagine that there are more and more people applying now, as it's getting closer to when most people take the exam. That could lead to longer wait time to process your application, as well as spots filling up quickly for test dates and locations. It might make sense to start the application process now. I found instructions as to how to do this in the front of First Aid. You can also just go to the NBME website.

Then again, I was a little on top of the game bc I'm taking the exam in VT, and there's only one test center there. I'm also a little psycho 😉

Wow. Thanks for the info! Anyway I'm asking for my husband, not me (in case anybody was wondering if I'm some sort of super-gunner or something ) He says he knew "vaguely" about what was involved (guys are weird 😛).

Oh, and I didn't realize it is so expensive. I guess we're supposed to get used to it before we get around to paying for Step II CS 😱
