This post is in regaurds to May 15th. May 15th seems to be a very important day. Should I have my AADSAS application completed by this day or in the works?

Also, I just returned from meeting with several Dr.'s and Professors of mine about recommendation letters. I gave them the AADSAS cover letter and I assume they will send their Letters of Recommendation in a week or two. Should I have them wait and send their letters of recommendation around Mid-may or should I have them go-ahead and send in the LOR now??

Try to submit the AADSAS application as early as possible. If you have the time, why not submit it the first day it comes out? 🙂

AADSAS won't accept LORs until the next application period begins. If your professors send out the LORs now, AADSAS won't take them.

Here's the deal with applying early. You have to know what AADSAS will hold up your app for and what it won't.

They will hold you app until you:
1) Pay!!
2) Submit official transcrpits
3) Fill out the basic form with all the required stuff (marked by a '*').

Notice how LOR's and DAT were not on that list.

Do those 3 things as soon as possible then submit your app. If you have done a Spring semester, which most have, then you will probably have to wait until your school can include those grades in the transcripts (usually, early June). At my school, when ordering transcripts, I requested a hold until Spring grades were complete and included. Once they get all three of those things (or 1 and 2 actually) they will verify your grades. submit your app at this point. This is the earliest anyone can submit an app and you will be in great shape.

As for the LOR's, do not send them until you have a record created at AADSAS (I.E. AFTER May 15th) or they will go into the trash. Do not use a cover sheet from last cycle, if that is what you are doing.

Speaking of official transcripts, we only have to send them to AADSAS, unless the individual school contacts us requesting them, right?

If you apply in early june, what is the latest date to take the DAT? Could one possibly wait until mid-late fall semester? Also, could you send the LORs at this time?

mid-late August at the latest for the DAT i believe... You want to try to have the DAT scores arrive at the school around the same time as your app... But im sure it wont be a big deal if the DAT arrives a week or 2 after your app

Don't the schools give acceptances up until school starts though? Lets say I take the DAT in late October, if it takes 2 weeks for the schools to get the scores, I would have Dec-Aug to hear somethin', right?

True, but remember that w/out a DAT score, schools won't even look at your application. It will equate to submitting your application late, which if you have been reading these forums for a while, you know is a big, big no-no!

I would reccomend taking that DAT no later then Aug.

I would like to take it in Aug, but that would require taking orgo 1 and 2 in the summer. I'll probably end up doing that, but it would've been easier to take orgo 1 during the 1st summer session, study the second half of summer, and take orgo 2 in the fall w/ DAT in late Oct.

I guess Creighton is out: "The required hours and subjects must be completed by the end of the spring term preceding the fall in which the applicant wishes to enter the School of Dentistry." I guess they wont except you if you've gotta take classes in the summer. I wonder how many other schools are like this.....

No i dont think it is. If your taking those courses this summer and applying for the next cycle entering in 2007 then you will be fine. That means they dont want you taking the prereqs in the same summer you will be attending dental school, ie next summer.
