Hi,
I am an incoming ophthalmology resident in Canada.
I've heard about 2 year fellowships where you need to apply at the end of the 3rd year of residency but am having difficulty finding more information about this.
One complicating factor with the terminology as well to me is that in Canada as soon as you are accepted to ophthalmology, you are a PGY1 ophthalmology resident (even though you are all off service, similar to an intern/surgical year). My understanding is in the states it is an intern/surgical year first then the year after that are you considered a PGY1 ophthalmology resident or PGY2?
My few questions were basically:
For these two year fellowships, are you applying 2 years in advance? Ie the match that opens June 2018 is for July 1st 2020? Or is it still for example June 2018 application opens up for two year fellowships that start July 1st 2019?
How does one find out which fellowships require you to apply 2 years in advance (if any)?
Thanks a lot!
