Ive just finished my sophomore year with a cumulative gpa at cmu and am a nueroscience major. of 2.7. I also went to a community college from the time i was 16-19 taking full college loads and also got a 2.7. I have leadership experience only in helping to run a family business and will be spending the summer doing Nueroscience reaserch. As far as volunteering I have a few hours with a animal shelter and hours volunteering around a church. The low gpa is more a product of lack of discipline than ability, as I've managed these gpa's with putting forth just enough effort to get by (basically received these grades off of doing well on test and forgetting any hw, quizes, class work, etc). Staring at the possibility of not being able to get in to a school has made me grow up and realize how dumb and lazy I've been. So my question is; is the damage I've already done too much to over come or will strong performance and continued volunteering and research will be enough to even make me competitive? Also any tips or advice for how i can make myself more competitive? Any and all input would be helpful thanks
