I am very eager to start hearing from back from some of the school to which I applied. My transcripts finally reached SOPHAS. Does anyone know what happens next? How long will they take to finalize and mail my application? Will they begin to process my application even though they still haven't received my eval letters? Thanks for any insight you can offer!

On a side note, does anyone know when some of these schools get back to applicants? How many weeks do they take or is there one time period in which decisions are sent?

Columbia, JHU, Harvard, Yale, Tulane, Emory, BU, UCB

I'm applying Yale and Emory using Sophas too. Hope someone could answer your question asap.

Yale's program is rolling so the sooner our apps arrive the higher chance we could get in

Last year it was 4-6 weeks for SOPHAS. Most of the apps in to SOPHAS by the last week in November took 4 weeks, after that it was more like 6. Also check to make sure they actually post your GRE scores in a timely fashion. Many applicants had issues with them being there but not posted, myself included.
When you are logged in it will tell you what it needs before it starts processing. Last year to get the ball rolling you needed all the online sections completed, transcripts rec'd, and 2 of 3 rec's. So if it is the same as last year they won't start processing until you get 2 in.

Last year, people starting hearing back from Yale in Dec. (had their apps in Oct./early Nov.) From what I remember Emory, BU, and JHU were very timely in their responses as well. Columbia was not the quickest with their decision and people seemed to really wait awhile.

This thread may really help. There were a lot of active users last year that posted their acceptances as they came in.

Good luck!

Gosh, my whole application is being held up by 1 letter of recommendation! I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I want to tell my letter writers to hurry up and send something in!

Last year I had to keep gently reminding my 3rd writer. They definitely had me stressed out/worrying that they would back out/not get it done in a timely fashion.

Yeah same here. I gave them one month to write the letters for me and I'm still waiting for 2 more letters...gotta give them 'gentle' reminder email Monday.

I was wondering how you know when a school has rolling admissions?
Thanks!

Usually schools would have their deadlines posted on their program website. They will specify it if it's rolling, or implied it by saying it's better to submit applications asap.

For anyone who is curious... I gave SOPHAS a call to check on my application. They are currently estimating a 3.5 week process time before mailing your completed application.

If it takes SOPHAS 3.5 weeks to process an application, does that mean we must complete the application and hit 'submit' 3.5 weeks BEFORE the school's listed deadline? Because if so........ *gulp

yes that is what i understand to be correct. you should submit your SOPHAS application at least 1 month prior to any program deadline.

At this point the mailing process is still relatively fast. It took a month for SOPHAS to review my application and sent it to my designated schools.

Act fast!

I'd suggest you to submit it within this week or next to allow enough time to process

I have a general question about the application protocol.

After I hit e-submit, are there any sections of my application that I can edit?

You can add schools and add personal statements for those schools. Otherwise I don't think there is much you can change.

Also, has anyone applied to Columbia? Is it me, or are they being incredibly slow? The website has yet to update with any of my transcripts being received.

If I recall correctly, Columbia did not match up complete applications with the online system until January.

There are a few Colombia people on here so maybe they can speak more to it but I remember it being quite the process and wait.

Thanks for the reply!
All of them have deadlines though?
Are there any schools besides Yale that are confirmed to be rolling?
I appreciate the input 🙂

WHAT?? 😱
Oh man, I'm really screwed then. Are you 100% sure?

This is what SOPHAS says:

"Can I e-submit my application before my transcripts or test scores arrive?
Yes, you should e-submit as soon as you have completed your application. Do not wait for letters of recommendation, official test scores or transcripts to arrive. E-submitting as early as you are able will expedite the processing of your application. However, once submitted no additional changes can be made (although you may add additional designations)."

So as long as I submit my application a month before the deadline (even without letters or rec) I'll be okay? Or does it have to be a month before the deadline from the time the application is totally complete with all letters received?

Hey,

Mmm I think Dartmouth is kinda rolling. It said applicants would get a reply upon completion of application, whenever we submit them. I submitted mine like 3.5 weeks ago, so I should get a reply by next week. I'll let you know.

From what I saw a lot of schools just require you to e-submit by the deadline. As long as you hit e-submit before the deadline and all the transcripts and everything are received by SOPHAS before the deadline you should be alright

I mailed my international transcript to SOPHAS and don't know why it takes them that long to process it and seems like the whole application is being held down by this...

So will the schools still consider and review applications sent from SOPHAS after their deadlines, provided that I have timely submitted everything to them by deadline? Need answers, a bit worried.... 🙁

The verification time appears to be short... I esubmitted my SOPHAS on Nov 12 and got verification today that it will be sent out with the weekly submissions. I did have all my letters and transcripts in ahead of time though.

Best of luck!
