1) I just applied for dental school this June for Fall 2014

2) I will apply for podiatry school for Fall 2014 as well (in case dental does not work out)

3) Then again, I was thinking about doing a Master's at Barry or some other school in my state so maybe I can re-apply for Fall 2015

4) I will have a huge problem if I don't get into dental school, but get accepted to podiatry school.

5) Do I take the podiatry school or do I attempt the extra-schooling to raise my GPA to re-apply for dental school?

6) Can I defer podiatry school from Fall 2014 to Fall 2015 if this happens?

7) I also want to start off in something biology related so I can pay off my student loan debt.

Thanks

That's a whole lot of plan B's. What's up with A?

If dentistry is your goal ditch pod for now. Barry helped me get into school so look into that as well.

Some one is confused, Although many patients told me that teeth look like feet on
X-rays

Just go to dental school. If you ended up in podiatry school, your username would just seem ridiculous...

You solved your own dilemma. Looks like you really don't want to do podiatry. So don't do it. It's a waster of money, time and effort. Plus you don't want to be miserable for the rest of your life. If you really like dentistry, do dental. If you don't get in, work on improving your application.

I wouldn't mind the 4 yrs, it's the 3 year mandatory residency that is a turn off.

Well IDK because I still have one more run in June 2014 with my DAT scores

Pick a career and stick with it. You are more likely to get in if you go after one. Also, decide which you like better - 4yrs of school + huge amounts in loans later you dont want to realize that you should have gone with career A or B.

Good luck!

I'm doing both as of now and seeing where it goes. I need a plan B.

I think free99 is referring to 2pacclone. Look him up on older SDN threads. You and him have some weird contingency plans if you don't get into dental school.

i dont know about him/her but mine are pretty sound, no?

Here is the reality and problem of choosing between the two professions....

Podiatry is ridiculously easier to get into versus dental. So no matter what this year, you will get into podiatry school, but possibly not dental school. If you truly want dental, it may take an application cycle or two, as well as bettering your stats, DAT, etc.

If you have a greater passion and interest for podiatry, then by all means go for it. Just don't settle for it if what you truly want is dentistry.

Dentists and podiatrists do very different day to day activities out of school. Both seem to be paid around the same ballpark, however general dentists do not need 3 years of residency to start working and making that salary. There are pros and cons for both careers, but i would consider both great options in the big scheme of things. So I would say shadow and then decide because the professions are quite different in practice. I personally prefer dentistry because i like both the cosmetic and functional sides of dentistry and i would prefer to avoid working in a hospital. After shadowing a few general dentists and podiatrists in different settings (private practice, hospital, community health) decide which profession you would prefer to do for the rest of your life. Also this might be controversial, but if you have any type of inferiority complex, dentistry might be the better choice, however still not immune from people who don't understand non-MD health professionals.

I have 1 year to improve it so idk what to do at this point.
