Hello! I recently got hired as an EMT and will not start working on the ambulance until the middle January. With interviews being sent Jan/Feb, I was wondering if it would be wise to send an update now saying I got hired (plus some details about a scribe job + tutoring I've been doing + letter of interest) or to wait until mid Jan and send a letter that has some details about the EMT experience.

Asking because I was thinking the mid Jan may be late but unsure how much sway having details about the experience may have.

Thanks in advance!

Oh also I wrote EMT as a future/projected activity on my AMCAS, so was thinking it'd be useful to say I've started

I'd say don't send until work starts. Update letters should be reserved for anything that is truly new (i.e. cannot be gleaned from your AMCAS or secondaries). Similarly, I'd exclude the scribe job/tutoring if you've already done hours for it, and a letter of interest is absolutely not needed unless/until you find yourself on a waitlist

The tutoring is completely new, though I doubt it does much in terms of an update letter lol. Thanks for your feedback

EMT experience is great for medical schools and it's one of many crucibles for forging quick-thinking and compassionate physicians. You should send a letter when you have some experiences there. There's all kinds of valuable things you can say: What has is been like joining the team? Maybe a little about your first patient experiences.
