I remember reading somewhere that people will write down numbers on their scratch paper that help them with timing. But, alas, I can't seem to find the thread.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? What are the numbers, and how are they used?

Thanks.

Since verbal was the only section where I had problems with timing, I made sure that I was done with 2 passages every 17 minutes. So the times were 43, 26 and 9.

Some people like to do 8 minutes for passage, so for example, for verbal, they'll write down the numbers that signify how much time should be left at the end of each passage, like this:
52, 44, 36, 28, 20, 12, 4 (giving them a 4 minute buffer period at the end to review, or in case they fall behind due to a difficult passage).

People then make a similar time break down for the physics and bio section. Some do all of the discretes at once and give it the same time as one passage.

Usually, people write down these time points before the section starts, on their scratch paper during the exam agreement. The numbers just help them keep track of time, and make sure they're pacing themselves correctly. So for example, for the verbal numbers above, when the countdown timer says 30, you should be just about ready to start the 4th passage.
