I found this site not too long ago, and it has really helped me figure out why I'm making certain errors on the verbal section.
http://web.cn.edu/kwheeler/fallacies_list.html
Basically, I've been cataloging the questions I get wrong to try to distinguish between different types of errors I made to reach an incorrect conclusion:
- was it a careless mistake?
- did I commit a fallacy of relevance?
- a component fallacy?
- a fallacy of ambiguity?
- or a fallacy of omission?
It's really interesting. I think about half of the errors I make are careless, and most of the remaining are fallacies of relevance.
I think it would be worthwhile to take a formal course in logic just to hone my critical reading skills... has anyone tried that?
