Tips for angle ranking!!

This may sound weird but for the most difficult of the rankings I look at the pixilation at the tips of the angles. The more it is black at the point the smaller the angle. It is time consuming but if you dont have a clue its the best way to go. It has worked for me before.

i just eyeballed stuff, sometimes an angle told me things in a smurf's voice.... but when they didn't, I eyeball 'em...
i'm pretty positive that you are not allowed to touch the screen. that would sort of defeat the perceptual idea of the test.

Just this Saturday, I went to the Sylvan Learning Center where pre-dental students in my area take the test. I asked about touching the screen, and the proctor said it doesn't matter. She said the other proctors wouldn't care either; in fact, she had never heard about it being a problem.
I'd go check ahead of time at the place you'll take the test. It most likely depends on where you take it.
I found using my thumbs to be handy with really close angles. I'd place a thumb on each angle and shorten it until they were really tiny angles, making sure to keep my thumbs the same distance away from the beginning of the angles. It seemed to bring out differences in the angles pretty quickly.

Do you just have extra time to visit the testing center, or are you applying again?

focus around the vertex, train your eyes to look no more than a few mm away from it. and if you practice on paper, lift the paper up so that it's horizontal to your eyes looking straight ahead. during my studies, i found that your eyes are better at judging distance and angle if you look ahead than bending your head & looking down (it's how we evolved, really).
One approach that I took came to me during the actuall test itself. I took the Kaplan course and their angle ranking was much easier than the actual DAT. So I figured out to glance over the answers first, because they only give one or two as the smallest and largest, so choose one to focus on. I focussed on usually the smallest because the largest was pretty much very easy to distiguish from the others. Good luck, and I hope i could help!

I'm teaching a bunch of Kaplan classes right now, and the #1 question about angle ranking is, "Can we touch the screen?" I've been telling students that I'd check on it, and I went in this weekend and checked so that I could finally give a straight up answer instead of speculation. 🙂bryan45876 said:
