Hi all. I want to take a final impression for a single unit crown with a sub-gingival finish line. I'm having a hard time with the two-cord technique. When I remove the first cord prior to the PVS impression, the second cord is at the level of the finish line and capturing the finish line in the impression is very hard. Any tips on this?

Try using a single cord technique instead. Use a 00 or 0 cord packed into the sulcus for ~5 minutes. Let your assistant start mixing the putty and you go ahead and remove the cord. When they load the tray try to get as much light body in there as you can.

I have always used a double cord until last week, I got the impression below with a single 00 cord in each sulcus for 24 &25. It's hard to see in this image, but I had some great fins of light body extending into the sulcus. Ignore the bubble right there in the papilla.

Yup I agree with this. Except I always try to get the #1 or #2 in there. Bigger the better. Also take your time with cord placement. 5 extra minutes of getting it right will save you 15 minutes of having to redo it.
