What is my chance of getting into an allopathic program?
In 2019, 48 U.S. medical schools told the AAMC that they accept international students. This includes schools with prestigious research programs, such as Harvard, Yale, and Johns Hopkins. How many international students these 48 schools accept varies—but it’s always low. “In the 2019 application cycle, 1,890 foreign applicants applied to MD granting programs in the United States and 325 of those applicants were accepted,” they report. “Of those accepted, 272 matriculated into medical school. This includes applicants who applied via AMCAS and TMDSAS.” (That last acronym stands for Texas Medical & Dental Schools Application Service, which processes applications to state-supported schools in Texas, such as Baylor and Texas A&M.)
