tips for studying in group

I see people forming groups to study for the DAT. I would like to know successful ways I can study with a group or partner... such as study methods, techniques so that we can improve studying and stay on schedule
Also, if I study with someone taking the MCAT, will there be too much difference in material that it wont be helpful??
