I have an interview at my #1 choice coming up. The story is that when I applied to the program, I got rejected. However, I did a rotation after I got rejected, impressed a few attendings, who then spoke to the PD on my behalf and got me an interview. The program is prestigious, and I got along with the residents and attendings very well. I actually exchanged numbers with one attending. When I interview, I want to communicate to whomever I interview with that the program is my #1 choice. How can I do this without negatively impacting my chances of matching there? I do realize that I was rejected initially, so the interview may be a "courtesy" one. However, I did the rotation without the intention of getting an interview and got one. So, lightening may strike twice. Any advice on how I communicate to the interviewers about the program being my #1 choice without adversely affecting how they rank me? Thanks in advance.

i would just treat it like a normal interview day. but at the end of your interview with the PD, i would mention that you will rank them number 1 and tell him why.
good luck =)

No one will care how many times or in what way you tell them they're your #1.

They've all heard it a million times before, and seen the candidate rank someplace else above them.

Just do the best you can at the interview.

Tell them they are your #1 if it makes you feel better. It's unlikely to make a difference for reasons stated above.

Make sure every interviewer you meet knows that you did the audition elective. Short, sweet Thank you note to everybody you meet on interview day and the PD. Don't over do it.
