Well... I am getting really sick of my classmates telling what a bad idea it is to miss lecture!!

Obviously, what they mean is, it would be a really bad idea for THEM to miss lecture. Can't we all just do our own thing? Just because I am not sitting in hell (our freezing cold 200 person lecture hall) all day doesn't mean I am not sitting at my comfy desk at home doing the same material!

Seriously, at what point are we all going to recognize that every individual needs has different methods! My grades have improved drastically since I cut back on lecture... not to mention I am more sane!

But, I'm not walking around trying to talk other people out of going, I know most of them DO get something out of our lecturers...

I am just sick of people walking up to me in a anatomy lab and telling me how bad it is that I haven't been to our morning classes in a long time... I just want to tell them how I did on our exams, but i just smile & nod!

Anyone else tired of nosy classmates?

I could never miss class to study on my own. Unfortunatly, I am an auditory learner. I wish I could cut classes and get it on my own. I find if funny that people are worried about your not being in class.

I love that you just smile and go on, but if they are gettin to you, tell them that you
learn the material better on your own.

I'm still in undergrad but I get the same thing all the time from friends and classmates. One went so far as to suggest I was depressed just because I stopped going to lectures!

Like the OP I just don't get anything out of lecture. Particuarly when the professor lectures directly off of powerpoints that are posted on the web. I lecture I just dick around or fall asleep; it turns out to be gigantic waste of time for me to go to these classes. So I don't. And I've never gotten better grades.

OP, I feel your pain. But take comfort in the fact that your friends got up at 7 and you didn't get up until 10.

well, its true that you don't need to go to class but it does help you at least in some ways.

my question to you would be, why bother having classes at all? i mean everyone can read on their own and learn the material.

should there be 2 types of medical school? one for those who can lean on their own and one for those who need to be 'taught'?

the compromisers out there will say, 'well we need both types'

Let me add that I DO go to anatomy... I just know I won't make myself sit and pick through 50 pages of netter a day.... Other than that I just find that the digging through the text and mostly internet MAKE me learn actively, but I would never consider telling someone else whether they should go to lecture or not--especially at a different school, I can only speak for my school!

P.S> I just picked up two exams and raised my grades significantly on both!!! (since my new 'strategy') 🙂

Nobody f'in cares about you, stop whining and get back to class.

If you read what peehdee wrote that it about sums it up. Some people assume that ALL people learn the same way and hence ALL must do what the norm has been. Do what works for YOU and will make you succeed in medical school. Just because some folks want to go to class and sit there passively just because everyone else does it ..

if we went to class, we'd have to listen to people like you.

as noted by other posters, there are definately classes i go to. but when prof's just read off of powerpoints... that's not to helpful for me. but some prof's don't use power points and other classes are discussion based - i go to those.

unless they start at 8am.

Sarcasm radar must be malfunctioning today.

I don't see what the big deal is if you don't want to go don't, nobody cares. Not going to class doesn't make you some kind of rebel. By the end of your first year people will pretty much get over it, they may even forget you are in their class.

I tell the MS2s that they are going to fail becuase they are GOING to class !!! hahaha

There's such in increase in volume this year, now it really makes sense to stay at home and learn cuz I dont know how people go to class and then learn it during second year.
