Submitted my application 5/29/09. It was submitted to the schools around 2 weeks later. Got an email from San Antonio July 2 telling me they received my application.

Alright. I've already submitted my application. The status section on the homepage says that they have not recieved my transcripts. However, when i click on credentials and requested documents tab... it says that my transcripts have been recieved.

so which one is it? do they have them or not? do i need to deliver them through interfolio?

im pretty sure that your transcripts are received as long as interfolio says it has received them. everytime i call TMDSAS and ask them about transcripts, they tell me the same thing and get pretty angry at ppl who are asking this question haha

I know it is good to apply early, but I am taking the DAT on Sept 19th and plan to fax in my scores. Do any of you know if that is considered too late? The only reason that I am taking the DAT so late is that I have not taking ochem yet and plan to teach myself for the purposes of the DAT. I hear that most of the schools do not send out decisions before Dec anyway, so I figure that Sept would not be all the late.

applying september for texas dental schools is going to be considered late in my opinion (their deadlines are oct 1)

the reason is, you are taking your DAT on sep 19th. it will take 2 weeks for ADA to process your DAT scores and send it out.
Schools do not consider you and invite you for an interview until they receive an official score from. Baylor does begin looking at your application via fax but they will not extend interview until they receive the official score.
TMDSAS would take few weeks to process application which can delay your process even further if you do not submit it ahead.

Many schools will begin interview beginning August and also ALL dental schools are required to send out their first acceptances in December 1st by ADA guideline but that does not mean that they wait until around November to make decisions of who will be getting in or not. They will actually start filling their seats through their interviews in Aug, Sep, etc. and they will just announce those in December 1st.

For example, Baylor fills up almost their entire seats with pre-December 1st interviews and i think last year, they were filled almost 100% from pre-december apps. (which means their class is almost full with people getting interviews from Aug-Nov, many of them submitted and was reviewed before August)
Dental school is rolling admission (higher chance in early applicants when they are not compared to as many applicants) so by the time they receive your application around October, they will be slower to go through applicants because during this time they will be busy with interviewing people and making decisions.

But again, if you have really outstanding GPA for texas schools (3.8+) and end up having decent DAT, you could still have a good shot no matter when you are submitting applications but if you are lacking any areas (esp. considering that you haven't taken ochem yet), it will definitely hurt your chances.

The only thing i can suggest to you is to submit rest part of TMDSAS ASAP (and I hope you have good GPA which will attract ADCOMS) and seal the deal with a great DAT score.
and also, DAT Ochem is very basic and easy and I think if you are ready for all other sections, you could take your DAT earlier than that.

good luck and feel free to ask any questions

"Guideline(s)" and "required" are contradictory terms. A minor detail, but the guidelines you are referring to are those from ADEA not ADA.

Thanks for the information!

I am a non trad, with a business degree. My overall gpa is a 3.75 and science is a 3.6, but bcp is a 4.0. My science gpa is brought down by my classes during undergrad, but I have made a 4.0 so far in my classes. I can't really study for the DAT soon, as I am taking 7 hours of science classes during summer 2. How low of a score do you think I can make on the DAT and still be considered if I apply in late sept? Also, I am planning on applying to Uconn, do you have any information about that school or other out of state school that I would be competative for applying that late?

I actually have more of an issue with that fact that you seem confident about being able to prepare for the DAT (Bio, GChem, PAT, RC, and QR), while taking classes over the summer AND teaching yourself OChem than your application timeline. Also wondering how you're going to work in biochem before fall of 2010 if you haven't started Ochem...

As far as out of state schools go, my opinion is, (and it's just my opinion) that if you're a texas resident and can't get into one of the texas schools, you're going to have an even harder time getting into an out of state school.

Not trying to bring you down, I also am a non-trad student trying to get in. Maybe I'm missing some information but it just seems like you're biting off more than you can chew. The last thing you want to do is take the DAT under-prepared. Trust me, I know from experience...

As for biochem, I am taking it during the spring semester. I will have all of my prerequisites completed by the end of Spring 2010. As for the DAT, I have recently taken the bio and chem classes, so I know most of the material on those sections. Ochem is a whole different story. I figure that by Sept I should have math, PAT, and RC completed. Well, based on your experience, would you recommend to not even apply if I think I might not do well on the DAT? I figured that if I don't get in, big deal - I will just apply next year and rock the DAT. On the other hand, if I do, then I am in 🙂

EDIT: I know some of you already asked this, but are the optional essays "required"? I know someone answered this, but I think the answer had some sarcasm behind it.

Just received an email from Baylor telling me they got my app and to fill out an identity form...it only asked for my tmdsas id and my birthday.
Two schools down...now just waiting to hear from Houston to tell me they got my app. Houston is always slow...

I understand your logic. I did the same last year. Here is what I think. You don't really lose anything by applying, in fact it's a good experience because you see what aspects of your application to work on and you know what's coming next year so you can apply earlier. Also, I was told by a Baylor student that some seats in each class are reserved for reapplicants. The downside is that if you don't do as well on the DAT as you want, that score is there forever. Sure, you can retake it, but they'll always see that score too. So that's not really great. You want to do well the first time.

Ya it's wierd, I submitted my app a few weeks ago and they got my payment on 6/30 but they still haven't updated the first page on app which states "Submitted to TMDSAS". I did get an email from Baylor stating that they got my secondary app and asked for my TMDSAS id and birthday to match it.

I wonder when we're supposed to hear back from all the schools if they got our app or not? Maybe I'm just freaking out for no reason b/c the lady at TMDSAS today told me that it will actually take about 3 weeks since TMDSAS gets your payment to actually process and send your app to the 3 schools....

does tmdsas let you know when they mail out the apps?

right now my status says submitted to tmdsas for all three texas schools. does that status change when they actually send them out?

received email from Baylor yesterday regarding tmdsas id & b-day...also received confirmation email from SA a few hours ago..🙂

Yes it will change to "submitted to schools". I didn't receive any other notification than that.

Thanks for replying!

One more thing, I wanted to see if someone could answer the other questions I posted:

" know some of you already asked this, but are the optional essays "required"? I know someone answered this, but I think the answer had some sarcasm behind it."

no they are not required. they are there because sometimes people have had some sort of adversity that might have affected their grades or school. don't use the optional essays to further elaborate on points you've already covered in your personal statement.

I'm taking my DAT soon but am submitting my application before I take it. Does anyone know how long it will take the schools (Houston, SA, and Baylor) to receive the actual application?

Or a time frame?

thanks

Has your status changed on TMDSAS? Mine says "Pending" next to the schools. They might be waiting for my scores???

mine is submitted on 6/15/09 and still hasnt been sent out.
today it changed to Transmitted to Schools under right side box but still said submitted to TMDSAS on bottom with 3 school names. but now i just checked it again and it is back to Submitted to TMDSAS.

im very confused on why mine is taking so long to be sent out and what is going on? is it just me or is TMDSAS very slow this year?

I think your science gpa is great but if I were you, I would aim for at least the average, which is AA 19/20 nowadays. I didn't apply out of state so I can't answer your question on that.
About the optional essays, I didn't do them. However, it wouldn't hurt to do them.

How do you send the money order to TMDSAS?? Do I need to send in any additional form with my money order?? Should I add any additional info to it??? I would appreciate any feedback??

nope... just write the check or money order and mail it to them. make sure you include your tmdsas id number on the check.

On the memo line of the check, you should put your TMDSAS PIN and name. That's it.

i'm on out of stater applying to san antonio... Does anyone know if they want DAT scores or a supplemental fee now? I can't find it on their website and my addsas status says "received/waiting additional information" so idk if they're waiting on something like that

There is no supplemental application, I imagine they need your dat scores at some point. Also, they probably won't give interviews to out of staters until later since by texas law 90% of students have to be instate.
You could always call san antonio and ask too.

So from what I can pick up...it seems that yall are paying to transmit your DAT scores? Are you paying to send old scores to TMDSAS or the actual dental schools?

I actually have a DAT from a year ago and I'm planning to take one later this month. I'm sending my free ones to the ones in Texas...does that mean I don't have anything else to worry about?

It all depends on if you want them to go ahead and review your app with the old scores or if you just want to wait for the new ones. I went ahead and sent them my old scores so I'd have a completed app even though I will be retaking in August. If you just want to wait, you have nothing to worry about. Just take the DAT and they'll send the scores to the schools.

yeah just keep in mind that they will not review your file and extend interviews until they have complete file and for texas schools which have deadlines on Oct. 1st, it is pretty important to try to submit it and be ready to be viewed early (and also it takes 2 weeks for ADA to send out the DAT score once you take the test). I would pay $75 (25 each school) to be in good shape than taking a risk of being late.

also, my TMDSAS app. has finally been sent out. took me exactly 1 month from my submitted date (submitted june 15th) =\

Don't all applicants who apply to Texas dental schools apply via TMDSAS, doesn't matter if you're from in-state or out-of-state?

How often does tmdsas mail out applications?

Have they already sent out the second batch?

I submitted my July 6th along with the letters and check. Is there a good chance that they send out my app before August?

they work on applications everyday..my application took about 4 weeks from the day i hit the submit button online & about 3 weeks from the day they received my payment..so i would say early August..probably around August 5th or 6th...😎

Nope. Texas residents use TMDSAS and out of staters use AADSAS.

TMDSAS sends out their applications every Wednesday.
and I believe they have sent out at least 3-4 batches by now.
and mine took exactly 1 month from the date i submitted my app. to be sent out so i'm guessing yours will be sent out right before august or early august

I got an Interview at San Antonio! wooot!

Interview August 17th at UTHSCSA!!! =D

Emailed me 7/17/09 that they received my app. and interview offer on same day.

wow congrats!!

it seems like SA is doing much quicker than last year with interview process and im so glad to hear that they are using e-mail to notify app. instead of snail mail (my interview invite was lost last year and had to reschedule)

do you mind sharing with us when you submitted your app./sent out from TMDSAS, interview date, stats, etc.?
