had my baylor interview today. very chill and Dr. Miller is so nice. good luck to everyone and don't stress out too much.

I am glad you are done with your interview 👍. How many interviewee you were? and what was ratio between males and females?

congrats on being done longhorn & thanks for the feedback. i'm also kinda freaking out. but still hasnt really hit me. interview in 2 days!

Congrats to everyone who has gotten interviews!

I on the other hand have not heard from any schools. 🙁 My application was verified on 8/11/09 but my rec letters weren't received until 8/21/09. My gpa is a 3.47 and science gpa is a 3.33. My top choice school is Baylor. All they told me is my application is under review. I am starting to lose hope and I don't know what to do. I know there are a lot of people in the same boat as me...just don't feel alone.

Ugh, I'm definitely going to need it. I've got a cough and am so doped up on allergy medicine that I can hardly think straight. Hopefully I can get myself together and show up looking halfway presentable. This is going to be fun!

I'm debating whether to down a bottle of nyquil tonight...

I have my San Antonio interview soon. Anyone have theirs yet? Any tips or reviews of the interview?

Good luck to those guys who have Baylor interviews tomorrow!!!!
👍

Had Baylor interview today. There were 5 girls 4 guys. Baylor is awesome, I really hope I get accepted! It was nice to meet "lizzieloves"!

yay. i had my interview at baylor. i got to meet alanan and his wife, valarie, they were super nice. so its true, just as everyone said baylor is super relaxed, and everyone was so friendly and nice. after seeing the school and talking with everyone, i really feel like baylor would be a great school for me. i hope i get in :xf::xf: and alan and xlonghornsx!! thanks to all the sdners (danny & xlonghornsx) that helped. i was nervous but there wasn't anything nervous to be about.

there were 4 interviewees in the morning,
5 in the afternoon.

morning: 2 guys & 2 girls: the girls wore suit jacket and pants
afternoon: 2 guys & 3 girls: one girl wore a dress/jacket suit, and the others wore suit jacket/pants.

if anyone has any questions, i'll be happy to help.

and just like everyone said "KNOW YOUR APPLICATION!"

Oh yeah, Dr. Miller said that they interview around 230 students and send out around 130 acceptances in the first round. She said that for the past 4 or 5 years they've filled their class with first round acceptances too.

sounds like your baylor interview went really well. i have my interview on friday. i am getting sort of nervous but i dont think i should be after reading this post. i was just wondering what was your hardest question that they asked you?

probably tell me about yourself. that's always the toughest for me. bc i'm not a selfcentered jerk. hahaha kidding. but they asked me questions about my application and stuff more than the traditional strength/weaknesses questions. but it was completely just like everyone else said, super relaxed, just make sure you know your application! i think the tell me about yourself question was the only real question i got. 🙂

hey alan, i didnt know that about the applications. dr moore said they had like 1300 applications, but 2300 sounds more right. but hopefully we'll be on that first round dec 1st letters :xf:

Yeah most of the questions were just pulling things from your application and asking you more about them. I kind of liked that because you were able to explain some of the weaker aspects of your app and expound on the strengths.

yeah. i def liked it more. i also liked the way it was pretty open ended question, so i was able to almost include anything i wanted when i was talking. and i just realized i misread what you wrote alan. haha you were talking about 230 interviews. and i was talking about ppl that apply. duh. silly me.

Super excited, relieved, ecstatic, etc. Was getting worried because I hadn't heard from anyone since Aug. 1st interview! Yipee!!!😀

This is my first interview. I meant last time I heard from them was when the schools emailed me that they had received my application.

awesome, congrats!! when is it oct?

hopefully i'll start hearing back? that's around the same time houston & sa told me thanks for applying. might just be wishful thinking on my part.🙂

You'll definitely hear something from them. You have much better statistics than I do.

And I heard that you and alanan84 had a good time in Dallas, that's great. Hopefully, if it all works well, I'll hear from Baylor and you guys will hear from SA. :xf:

I was verified September 14 and still haven't heard anything. I was wondering if anyone else was verified around that time and already received interviews?

To anyone who has had the SA interview:

My is coming up on Monday the 5th and I wanted to know what to expect. I saw iced post a couple pages back already, but just wanted to get other peoples opinions.

How was the overall interview with the student and staff member? Certain questions I should focus on?

Had mine yesterday. One faculty, one student. Honestly it seemed like everyone interviewing yesterday got different questions.

From the faculty, I got asked a couple of things about my extracurriculars, as that is the only thing they have access to. Interviewers do NOT have access to your grades. I also got asked about what the government should do about encouraging dentists to see more medicaid patients.

My student interviewer was chill. He straight up told me he had nothing to ask me about in the beginning. I told him we should talk about sports then. We talked about the Texans and the Cowboys for 30 minutes.

The student that interviewed me was the one who asked me the "why dentistry?" jobs, extracurricular activities, research questions, but it was really informal and laid back (i sat in his dental chair with my feet up and he sat at a little table next to me with a laptop.... he must have been taking notes on it or something) He was dressed in scrubs and was really laid back and it flowed more like a conversation.

The interview with the faculty member was really more of an opportunity for me to ask him anything I wanted about the school. He didn't ask me any questions other than "What do you want to know?" If I didn't naturally already have a good amount of questions in my head, then it would have been awkward. I asked the questions and he did the answering. He was really pretty direct and honest about the things I asked, so it was really cool, and again, laid back. Again, it flowed more like a conversation.

It was closed file interview, so they don't have any of your stats in front of them, which I think is an interesting way to interview.... I guess they want to see you for who you are without any expectations or preconceived notions... good or bad. I really really liked it there.

hmm..thanks for your feedback. What kind of questions did you ask (about the school, curriculum, general stuff, dental related, etc.)? Also, I'm afraid of the Governmental Healthcare question, where are some good reliable places to research this topic online?

thanks

Your post caught my attention and here's something that I think you guys should know:

In contrast to the interviewers at UTHSC-SA, the interviewers at UTDB DO HAVE access to your numerical stats. How do I know? Last year at my Houston interview, my interviewer complimented on my #s while he was walking me back to the Cooley's Room... I was pretty much speechless afterwards.

October 5th, man so soon.

As far as the interview goes, what should I bring with me? A folder with questions and paper/pen to take notes?

or is it best to bring nothing? any other advice would be nice.

thanks

Congrats Denner!! 👍 On a side note, I do have to admit that I like your avatars, in a weird, disturbing kind of way. :uhno: That Phillip River pic is hilarious and this new one is even better. I think he's the one that marries Ving Rhames at the end of Chuck and Larry (Adam Sandler movie) if I'm not mistaken.

congrats!

I'm starting to get nervous because I am a Texas resident and have not heard anything. My app was verified 9/14 and I have very average stats. I'm hoping to stay in state but right now the two interview I do have are out of state. Do any of you know if Baylor has switched to email notification yet?

Yes I think Baylor has switched to email notification, and then you have to fill something out on their BAMF website. Baylor and SA usually get back to you quickly (like 2 weeks). Houston is slower.

I'm getting kind of nervous too. Haven't heard from Houston or SA.

Man, Oct. 5th this Monday is fast approaching, but as with everyone said, I'm ready. I'm there to prove that I belong and take the next step, i shouldn't be worried or frightened. Bring it on.

Plus, I'm staying at the Marriott (the $70 deal that was included in the email), anyone else gonna be there Sunday night or has stayed there? I wanted to know if I should right the shuttle that they offer to the school and if it is on time or not because I don't want to be running late because of the hotel and shuttle.

thanks

wow congrats!! When was your first (other) interview?

Thanks!
Baylor is on Nov. 6.

Thanks man.
Ya, I found that Philip Rivers one awhile ago and couldn't stop laughing so I used it for a long time. I have no idea what he could have been thinking when he was making that face at a game. I was actually watching Reno 911 on TV the other day which led to the Terry pic.

congrats!

good luck le, you'll be great! and if you just ask the shuttle to bring you early i'm sure they will, you are a paying guest and that is a service they are offering you. 🙂

i remember someone saying that baylor and sa accepts unoffical DAT scores faxed, does anyone have the SA fax number or can point me in the direction of it. thanks in advance!!

Congrats for your interviews. SA gives interview to OOS much easier than Baylor! But having Baylor interview is something else! Good luck for your interviews. 👍

I didn't know that about San Antonio. The ADEA guide I got seems more and more useless by the day. They only show like 11 interviews for out of staters in the 2008 entering class, while Baylor had 19.

My Baylor interview on 10/7 was great. I was very impressed with the school, and the students and professors were super nice. I met with three faculty members, including Dr. Miller. I was asked very easy, straightforward questions like Why do you want to be a dentist, how do you want to practice, do you want to specialize, etc. I was asked a lot about my research as well as specific questions about courses I had taken. They also made suggestions of courses to add so that D1 would be easier.

All in all, it was a very positive, low-pressure experience. UT-SA tomorrow.....

Good luck tomorrow!
Baylor interview on Oct 16th this Friday! Anyone else?
