Had my Houston interview on Aug. 23 and SA interview on Oct. 4...both were extremely relaxed, definitely felt like I was just having a normal conversation...still waiting for Baylor!!!!!!
Congrats!! My interview at SA is on the same day, see you there 🙂
How long did it take you guys to hear back/get an interview with Houston Dental School?
I received an e-mail conformation from houston 10/4, and have yet to hear anything else from them. I have not given up hope, but I am concerned because I only applied to the 3 schools.
Let me know what you guys think...

My app was transmitted Aug 17, just wondering but has anybody who transmitted around this time heard anything yet. I'm getting nervous... I've already seen a post transmitted in September and got an interview the same month..
how long has it been taking for people to get interviews at San Antonio following getting the "dental application received" email?
Just got an invite to interview with UT Houston on the 25th!
as depressing as it is for me to see many people getting interviews, I'm happy for all of yall!! Everyone seems like a good candidate for these Texas schools...I'm just really anxious and it's nerve wrecking waking up everyday checking my emails every hour waiting to see if I will get an invite to San Antonio or Houston =/

I'll see you there! I've had Oct 25th for the longest time (purposely scheduled for a late date), and it's finally almost here. 🙂
thanks for the encouragement lol. Just out of curiosity....did anyone receive their invite by phone or snail mail? Or are interviews only given based on emails?
I should check my mail at home more often.....just in case i suppose lol
studying at home????? 😉go cooogs
I'm really happy for everyone but I'm getting so nervous waiting to hear back from all of them.
I want to call them and see what the hold up is so I was wondering which numbers are you guys calling? There's not a direct number online and how often can you call without sounding pushy?

If you received that email, I wouldn't call just to see what the hold up is. Another kid did that and got a rejection right then and there over the phone.
CONGRTS!!!!! I am SOO excited for you 🙂
Can you fill me in on the details? When they confirmed (e-mail) and when you heard back for the interview?
Me= Jealous!
Still no word from Houston 🙁
Hey lovelyinpink and jon,
I have an interview at Houston on the 25th as well since I rescheduled mine.
I guess I will be seeing y'all there! 🙂

just got an interview invite to San Antonio on November 8!
I still haven't heard from any of the schools yet.. I'm becoming really worried and disappointed.. My application was submitted in June but I took my DAT in July, then my application was completed before August... I received the confirmation emails from all three schools.. Do they still give out interviews??
what are your stats if you don't mind me asking? I can't speak for SA and Baylor but what I've heard from my school (UTDB), competition is fierce this year....I still haven't heard from any of the schools yet.. Just relax...they're both very laid back interviews. They both understand that we're interviewing them just as much as they're interviewing us, and want to make a good impression. I enjoyed both schools...felt that San Antonio was cool in that they don't have as rigorous of lab requirements as Baylor, at the same time I think I would like knowing exactly how my preps should be so the lab can make the best possible crowns/what have you. Both schools have their ups and downs, but both have the dirt cheap tuition 😉 Enjoy! Also visit the cities too...I loved Dallas - San Antonio was raining the whole time I was there
I wouldn't call them dirt cheap - around 50k/year. However, they are cheaper than elsewhere.
I second that comment! However, I wonder if the 22k living expenses is really necessary?? Could one cut that down to 10k?? I cant imagine spending 22k in one year...live like a student right?🙂
Hey Txlonghorn! Uconn was great!! Have you heard from them yet? And yes, Dr. Thibodeau did have the 3 hr talk which was very informative. He also emphasized their extremely demanding curriculum..sigh...lol There were 8 of us there and we were split into 2 groups. I was in the group that interviewed with two women, one of whom was an endodontist. The other group was interviewed by a woman and man. I also spoke with Dr. Thibodeau after the interview in regards to a mishap that had occured with my transcript and he assured me that at this point, classes/grades were not a big issue. He was very conversational/jovial/funny and really a great man all around. Overall, interview was very conversational. They are definetely more flexible in terms of the applicants they accept-I met a first year who was an art major. I felt like a lot more of the students there were leaning towards GPR/AEGD's or specialties though. Um...what else...the student guide emphasized that dental students do get hands on experience in gross anatomy, so we shouldnt be worried about med students taking over our turf lol While the school isnt in an urban area at all, I really liked the serene, peaceful setting, it may help with focus when handling those classes...Dr. Thibodeau had a summary of all the interviewees' gpa/scores, etc...and my interviewers definetely knew my application, although I couldnt tell if they had my grades or not, lol. I'm sure you'll hear back soon!!Hahaha. That's what Dr.P said! How was the UConn interview? I'll see you at UTHSCSA on Monday 🙂
To make sure we are on the same page, I was referring to the competition among the applicants for incoming class. I wouldnt be surprised if the average GPA and DAT scores go up again for the class of 2011.What is your basis for saying this? I know the average incoming GPA for Houston went up last year to a 3.6 for D1 students. When I visited there, it seemed that everyone was laid back.

Regarding your comments about laid back environment, what else did you expect them to show you during an interview visit? Dont you think it would be a little biased? School starts ranking students from first semester and that puts everyone on the edge, especially those who are trying to go for specialties. It is very competitive no matter how you look at it
Good luck
