At the risk of sounding like even more of a ***** (if that's possible), I wanted to ask how to write back to the school. I wanted to send thank you's but the card for Dr. Glass, for example, only says Mail code xxxx, 7703 Floyd Curl Drive, SA, Tx... Do I just put Dr. Glass, and list them as follows?

I was lucky enough to get accepted at both UTDB and UTHSC- San Antonio. I really enjoyed both interviews, so I am still up in the air about which one to accept. I have my own pros and cons about both but I was wondering what yall think of each school. Thanks for any input and good luck to everyone.

3. how does the alternate list work? i'm assuming everybody gets a number of points assigned to them (gpa + dat + how well interview + background + etc) and then each person is ranked by number of points. is that so?

The no textbook thing at SA IMO, doesn't really set SA apart and if anything is a negative. At Baylor, you really only buy one textbook, Netters for Gross Anatomy, and honestly, I'd much rather have that in textbook form anyway. For the rest of the classes, you just study the PP slides.
Agreed at Houston, I and many of my classmates haven't bought any books at all. Everything is PP based with various other documents and you usually will not need a book at all. Therefore, you won't have to spend 2000+ on a laptop and you can choose your own or use the one that you currently have already.
Honestly, as a student at SA, the textbooks on our laptops are useless. We might have a few professors that will tell us to read chapters, but even then it's a complete waste, it's best to learn from lecture notes. You dish out close to 5k freshman year for the laptop and books, then every year thereafter over 1k for updates....for what? some books on a hard drive that we may or may not use. If you don't pick SA, you won't be missing out, just buy yourself a laptop as an acceptance present.....
point of story: don't let the laptop program fool you, don't even consider it in your decision making

Could you elaborate a little more on where you got 5k? In the paper they gave us with an estimated cost per year the first year they quoted 2500 for the laptop and 350 a year for updates. Thats a little high but a good 15"macbook pro is right at 2k and then you add the software and thats about right. What books did you have to buy? isnt the electronic sources suppose to take care of that? Im not saying your wrong but what your quoting is about 2x what the school said it would cost?
You're right about the laptop costing about 2500, and the whole electronic sources bundle cost $1200 each year, that's what we've paid in years past. So freshman year you pay for the laptop, electronic curriculum, and some other electronic gadgets= 4-5k. There must have been a drastic price slash recently if you're getting quotes for $350, which is a good thing.
If one were to deposit at HOU while not having been accepted to SA or Baylor, would he automatically be withdrawn for consideration to SA and Baylor?

No, accepting to one school does not hurt your chances for getting into another school (according to Dr. P at UTDB). He told my interview group that the best strategy is to accept to wherever you get in, pay the matriculation fee, and assume you are going there. Then, if you get into another school later on and decide to go there you just accept and then withdraw from the other one. He specifically said that all 3 Texas schools have an agreement that they will continue to give out interviews/acceptances to the people they originally want no matter what school they have accepted to until May. At that point they will not give you an acceptance if you have accepted somewhere. He also said that it is very common for people go from one school to another through Jan/Feb/Mar especially if they accepted to multiple schools and didn't give one school up until late.

From what I remember for our year, my classmates didn't hear back about scholarships until the beginning of the semester.... :\
So unless things have changed, you will not be able to form your decisions solely based on whether you get scholarship from UTDB.

Like Tucker mentioned, you CAN deposit at Houston and switch spots.
BUT, come May... your position is locked in. So until then, the schools can put out offers and you can pick and choose. However, after May, only people who have received NO acceptances within Texas schools can get an offer.

So moral of the story. Houston has spots open. Miracles DOOO happeeen!
I am not the type of person to keep high hopes though and neither would I recommend it. But do not let yourself crash either. We are all amazing DDS candidates and have great credentials. So just keep at it 🙂

First of all, there are tons of spots left! Students get in April, May, even June! With a lot of students switching and moving to other schools those spots will open up, just be patient.
Also for all you post-dec. ppl, don't worry many students get accepted or wait-listed post-dec. Just rock your interviews 🙂
For those ppl having trouble picking between Texas schools:
ALL THE SCHOOLS ARE AWESOME!!!!
its really about finding the best fit for you personally. Think about curriculum, living situation, cost, professors, amount of lab work etc.
Some insights on San Antonio:
Yes, the lap top and electronic curriculum is expensive. I personally do not use it to the fullest extent (meaning I have not mastered how to use our electronic books effectively) but its really cool to be able to look up things easily. We get hard copies and electronic copies of all our school manuals so you can work with one the other or both. We also get a hard drive with a virtual microscope (Histology) and other things for classes! Its a very organized system! Later on during clinic we can access online patient records, x-rays, etc from our laptops. Its very cool and innovative when you think about it! It helps you think about how you may want to use technology in your practice!
You will love many of your core professors during 1st semester. They are beyond excellent! Especially the Gross Anatomy department. There are some frustrating courses like, Biochem but you have the option of testing out of it! And you should if you can! It lets you have extra free time to study!
There is a good support system here. You will get matched up with peer advisors, faculty mentors, and even a mentorship group. Some are better than others, but the point is that we have them here. There is always someone to talk to if you need advice.
Living in SA is really cheap! There is a lot choice and cost of living is not very high. I feel its fairly safe around the school and the surrounding areas. There is stuff to do as well! There are nice bars/clubs around, good shopping close by, and its very scenic with tons of parks and stuff. Its overall a pretty nice place to live!
I think someone before asked questions about food at school. Well we have a subway, a cafe place, and a pizza place (not the best pizza). I know its not a lot and to be honest a lot of students bring their lunch. We have a really nice student lounge with fridges and microwaves. There is plenty of fastfood nearby but you may not go there and get back in time to enjoy lunch.

Hey Icedspice!! I think you may have been at my UTDB interview because I remember hearing a similar story!! Was your case an isolated incident or does that routinely happen that students are accepted up until JULY eek!! Do you have any idea how UTDB does their second round of offers and when that usually kicks off?? Any info that you can give will be great 😀

From what I heard, 1-2 Houston seats are available post-May. Reason why I thought it was odd that there was a seat available is
-- houston said that by may 1st, their class was full. They said they would notify people on waitlist IF a spot got opened. But, texas schools can't offer other Texas-accepted students acceptances.
Sooo... a person at UTDB had to drop out entirely or they chose an out of state school rather than UTDB --- in order for me to replace them.

I wouldn't know about 2nd round of offers (since I never got any!) haha but keep checking sdn. People who got in are usually up to date about informing others 🙂

Wait, really? I'm confused. 🙁 So I have a first round acceptance from SA and did a second round interview with UTDB. Since I've been accepted to SA, I won't be able to get an acceptance from UTDB?
UTDB won't give you an acceptance AFTER May 1st.
On May 1st, everything within Texas becomes locked.
So, you can accept your SA right now.
If between now and May 30th, you get accepted into Baylor/UTDB, you can withdraw from SA and accept your UTDB/Baylor offer.
After May 30th, UTDB/Baylor will not "steal" SA's students.
Make a lil more sense? 🙂 Sorry for the confusion. It happens every year :\
