Hi
I am so confused with the prerequisites for AMCAS versus TMDSAS schools. So any help would be appreciated! I am a Bioengineering major and an undergraduate at major UC. As my counselor had advised, I took all of the courses he suggested for satisfying pre-med requirements for UC med schools, while still satisfying my major requirements. However, I was filling out the TMDSAS application, I see that the schools require many more quarter hours. For example, UC med schools require only 12 quarter units of Biology, but Texas schools are asking for 18-21 quarter hours. As an engineering major, there is no way to satisfy the TMDSAS requirements while completing my major. Is it possible that they accept Bioengineering courses towards some of these requirements? Anyone else in a similar situation, or any suggestions? Thanks!

Another question ,
When I was converting my quarter units to semester hours, my registrar told me to take my quarter units for each class and divide by 1.5. So, if I have 4 quarter units, that will convert to 2.666 semester hours. Will they round it to 3 semester hours. Do anyone know ?

You are aware that Texas law requires schools to take 90% Texas residents
Are you saying it may not be even worth applying as a California resident? I'm also applying to many AMCAS schools just to clarify.

Anyone who is a engineer have any experience with applying to Texas schools??

Many people will tell you that “applying to TMDSAS schools is worth the time and money because of the potential payoff in low tuition”.

I have no comment here. Texas doesn’t attract very many OOS applicants (800-1100 depending on the school) every year, but doesn’t accept many either (max 20 at the big ones: TCOM, UTSW, UTMB, UTH - often times less).

If those are odds you feel you’re worth applying against, try it. If you’re high stats, or sterling ECs, or both, it may very well be worth your time. If you’re a borderline applicant, I don’t really think it’s worth your time to apply.
