Hi everyone,

So I was talking to a friend the other night and we talked about reapplicants for dental school in TX (or basically anywhere else). From what we understand, TMDSAS calculates our GPA and makes us classify them when we took it (FR, SOPH, JUNIOR, SENIOR, POST Bac, and Graduate). If you were to REAPPLY for dental school, which GPA would matter more? The undergrad GPA or POST BAC GPA? We thought that since a POST BAC is mainly for people to improve their grades by taking higher level courses, it would carry more weight. For example. A student has an undergrad gpa of a 2.9. However, his post bac gpa is close to a 4.0 over 36 credits. Since this applicant won't have a high overall gpa due to the amount of credits he already has, wouldn't the post bac courses and GPA be a better indicator that this person has turned it around? This is assuming he/she has gotten at least a 21 or 22 AA on the DAT.

Hope this made sense! 🙂
Thank you!

Hey!

Whenever Texas schools or any schools look at your application, they will look at all the GPA. I wouldn't say the post-bach will be great weight if your overall gpa is still under a 3.2. Also, 35 hours is pretty small compare to the 120 hours we need to graduate.

Hate to burst your bubbles, but they know that some people bust their butt off to get their gpa with 120 credit hours. It wouldn't make sense to let 35 hours overshadow the other 120 hours.

Hey!
Thanks for replying.
That makes sense. Just clearing up the misconceptions! 🙂
