To all those with interviews in the coming months

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats to you as well! I want to set up a mock interview but I am not sure I will have time with my work schedule and my first interview is in 15 days. I just finished reading "The Medical School Interview: Winning Strategies from Admissions Faculty" and it was very helpful. I have been lurking the Interview Feedback here in SDN and have typed up the questions listed. I am starting to formulate answers right now. I will be practicing in the mirror (ew) and will probably record myself (ew) but I want to see how I come across, especially since I have nervous habits that I need to hide lol. What about you?

That's a pretty a good strategy! I'm actually gonna snag that book you mentioned now. I was just going to try to set up multiple mock interviews, go through all of the SDN wisdom on interviews, and practice in the mirror as well. Going through the interview feedback section is a good idea. How many mocks are you planning to do CJ?

I would probably only do one if I do it at all. The only day I could would be next Thursday since that's my only day off before my interview so I'm going to call a local university and see if I can set something up. Otherwise I think I'll be ok practicing with family and friends and by myself.

For me, I'll read through the interview feedbacks, formulate most common questions, and practiced them in front of the mirror. I also conduct mock interview with my friends to get me use to the interview pressure and get some criticism.

can I ask where you set up a mock interview? 😳

I am going to contact a university near me and see if they will help me out. I've been out of school for 3 years so I'm going to see if I can set something up locally rather than having to go back to my UG.

I also read the aforementioned book, but I only found it to be somewhat helpful. I really need to pick up the MMI version, because that's the interview I am most worried about. I have spent time researching schools, coming up with answers to questions likely to be asked, and have a mock interview set up next week (am I wearing my suit and everything!).

For interview prep, a friend and I would look at commonly asked questions for each school.
Day 1: We just had an open discussion about the approach to each answer.
Day 2: Semi-formal mock interview each other while being able to pause at any time to critique and fix issues.
Day 3: 30 minute mock interviews then discuss at the end
We both ended up getting accepted (he went MD I went DO), so I guess it's not a terrible plan.

Is the MMI version written by the same people? If so I think I'm going to snag them both and hammer out some reading ASAP. Yea I think making the mock as close as possible to the real thing is a wise choice.

Wow nice! Did you guys take resumes to your interviews?

Only if it was requested in the secondary application. I've just heard it's a good idea to bring a hard copy of your application.

Search for "Goro interview guide". Also the interview feedback.
