I'm not sure if this question has already been answered, so bear with me. I am undergoing the excruciating wait for interview offers from med schools, and I wanted it to know if would reflect poorly on me if I were to give admissions a poke and ask them about the status of my application?

I've read somewhere that it tends to annoy admissions if I ask them, and from a friend I've heard it depends on the school. Some are actually very nice and will let you know.

What's the correct answer? Thanks in advance!

Go ahead and ask them. They won't bite you.

Rather than just asking, I sent a brief update email including coursework and ECs completed or in progress since June 1 when I applied. This lets them know you are still interested and an update to your file might "poke" them to take action on it. Good luck.

I've asked numerous times with no adverse results. Just be polite/courteous etc..

Sounds good. In other words, I'll ask them if they're considering me without really asking them. So far I have gotten four rejections, and two holds....and I'm getting quite anxious....
