Hi!
I'm predent who applied to several dental schools. Among those schools, I was fortunate to get three acceptances. I feel very fortunate and lucky to be in this circumstance that I have multiple options. However, I have one big disappointment that I have never heard from uop. I'm from east coast and lived here my entire life. Personally, I have a certain desire to go to the west. So, I researched the school and I met my friend's father who used to be UW d-school professor. He recommended me to apply to uop and he told me even though it's 3 years, school provide top notch education and has great national reputation and as he explained more and more I kind of feel vibe from the school. Also, as I read the uop related threads, almost every pacific students has a pride and feel satisfaction from the school. Even though I never visited the school (b/c of low budget) it gave me a feeling that I wanted to go to the school.

So, I applied to the school end of June but I have not heard from them for 6 months. My files has been reviewed for 6 months and now it says 're review in Jan'. I totally understand they mostly prefer californian residents and also competition is ridiculuously high that my chance is pretty slim. I don't have any pacific connections also.

I was bit frustrated that maybe I never gonna have a chance to show me as an individual to the school. My stats are ok, dat 24 but pat is 17. PAT can be the factor that holds me down. I heard uop emphasizes pat. Other than pat, I have 22 over scores in every categories. Gpa is par compared to last year's. E.A is average what most applicants would have done. Couple of years research, volunteer and shadowing.

This is my story. Since school will not gonna tell me what went wrong, I want current pacific student's opinions. You guys will know or have gone through this situation that you have a personal knowledge or story. Do you guys think I have a chance to this cycle? Should I have re take the dat bc of pat?

Plz feel free to give your opinions and advices. I really appreciate your time and thoughts. Thank you.

Here's the thing. It's never too late to give up hope for this cycle, but it's definitely not worth it to try and retake the DAT and if you have acceptances already there's NO way that you should give them up for any school.

Honestly, as far as your stats, I don't think the PAT is holding you back. It sucks to hear, but sometimes applications just slip trhough the cracks for one reason or another, especially at Pacific. I honestly think that sometimes they might actually use that dartboard down in admissions. 😉

Thanks armoshell. It seems application process is pretty random. I'm just tired of waiting..😴but I guess I just have to wait...i hope they just don't throw my files in the waste bin.🙂

UoP does not give preference to Cali people. the number of applicants that UoP accepts from cali is proportional to the number of app's they receive.

Oh..I see..I just assumed that since there are more cali residents in predent interview box, I thought they prefer cali people.

How did you get 22 on most of the parts of the DAT and get an overall 24 on the DAT.

The PAT is not stressed as highly as you probably think...I believe that's a bit of a myth. Our students do have higher than average DAT scores, but not by much. More importantly, but often overlooked by applicants, is the RC section. A poor RC score doesn't tend to work well for Pacific.

I agree with Armor...waiting is fine, but don't give up an acceptance this year just to try and reapply next year. It also helps to get in touch with the school application people themselves. The school tends to give a little more attention to people who make a little more noise.

I think he meant that all of his individual section were 22 or above. I don't think the DAT thing is a myth either, IIRC we're consistently in the top 5-10 for average DAT nationally.

Thanks everyone.
My rc was 24, so that can't be a factor I guess. I understand d-school process is not a number game. So, there are uncertainties around those process. Maybe it is really random process. I'm not going to reapply next cycle but I just wanted to know how you guys coped with this circumstance. I called the school several times but they told me the exact same thing "Be patient" everytime. Thanks guys. I really really appreciate your time, always.

They told us in the beginning of the year that since there are so many applicants, they have to turn away qualified applicants along with the unqualified. Maybe that is what is happening, or maybe your application just kinda slid by when they were looking at the stack. I don't think the 18 would have hurt you too much. But I agree w/ armor that DAT score is important for UoP. My GPA is nothing special, but I was feeling pretty good about my DAT scores before I started school. Then once I got to school I found out that for UoP my scores were nothing special either.

That's great that you got in to 3 other schools - congratulations! I'm sure you will be happy at the school you choose.

If I recall correctly, one of my classmates got in off the waitlist in May or June. One of my best friends in my class got a late interview (late december/early january) and was notified a few weeks later. I know of a couple students who were told to come a couple days before student orientation, to take the place of people who bailed out the last minute.

My point is, even though the earlier applicants tend to get in earlier, there are always slots available even after December.

You have no idea. I'm presently sitting in my rocking chair, shotgun by my side, nursing a bourbon in my arthritic hands, and figgerin' out this thing called the interwebs which, I understand, is a series of tubes STOP

Haha.. you guys are so funny!
Anyway, thanks for your kind comments! Happy New Year!
I hope I could be there, in 2008!😉

I've got my fingers crossed for UoP as well. Among the schools that hold DAT scores in high regard, I was hoping for a call from them. Still hoping for the best - it's good to hear that people still got in so late into the application cycle.

Maybe they hate who hangs around a lot in sdn...like me🙄
But I'm gonna put my faith in them!!
"Faith makes miracles~!!!" Haha

Anyone..???

Historically UOP called students that really crave to get accepted to the school. Someone mention, I think on SDN, that UOP has one of the lowest % students rejecting their acceptance letters. Some even drove to the school and asked for a tour and during the tour they’ve asked why they were not called for an interview. From what I understand, it did work out for them.

It’s also true that a few students with very high DAT scores (>25) were not called for an interview at UOP last few years.

Good luck to you.

I kind of understand your position of being drawn to a certain school..2 yrs ago I applied to several american d-schools. Being also from the east..i wanted so badly to go see the mountains on the west coast and really wanted to go to Oregon's d-school probably more for the location/environment as I didnt know too much about the school. I ended up with no interviews as I applied late (0 for 15 i think).
so i skiped a cycle in the U.S. , and applied early this year and have got into my number one choice on the eastern side. I too have numerous choices but after many many attempts I am so fortunate that at least one school has seen my desire that I will go to those ones that have expressed interest in me and if I were in your position I dont think i would wait around (plus im sick of doing the DATs)...u have 3 great schools just pick one...good luck👍
