Hey all, I have a question:

I'm in my last 2 years of undegraduate studies. I am an English major, and haven't taken the sciences to get into dental school yet. Should I start next semester (Spring 2004) taking the sciences as my electives? Or should I just finish my degree and opt for a post-bac program? Money is not a problem.

Because science is my weakest subject, I am scurd (not scared, scurd) that if I take the sciences as my electives, I will probably only take one per semester. But wouldn't admissions look at this as I can't handle the rigors of dental school (even if I get good grades)?

It is because of this that I am thinking about just doing a post-bac pre-med program after I graduate. That way, I will be clearly ready to handle the rigors of dental school (the post-bacs I've seen so far have you take physics, bio, and organic all at once; sure to "toughen" you up).

What should I do? Basically, I am asking: Is it better to take the science courses spread out and get good grades? Or take a rigorous post-bac program that will drill you for dental school? Remember, I science is my weakest subject. Personally, I think the post-bac will be better to help me prepare for this profession. All insights please.

pce,

bus.

I say take the elective sciences just so you can test your foot in the water. Atleast bio and g.chem. Just take a different post-bac with harder sciences after you graduate.

busupshot83,

Just out of curiosity....I was wondering what got you interested in dentistry? Usually people are poor at subjects that doen't appeal to them, and if you don't like sciences why are you interested in dental school? Because dental school WILL be very science intensive.

Good question... I just like teeth. 😀 <- like this guy here

If you think about it, if you take 2 science classes w/one of your major classes a semester/quarter, you are looking at between 12-14 units which is full time. If you take two of your majors along with two science classes you arelooking at 15-17, which is more than full time. I guess what I am trying to say is, just make sure you are full time.

raider,

THAT's EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! Thanks man...

bus.

bus,

please keep in mind that those classes are the min that schools want. almost all schools suggest additional cources and this makes sense b/c for example a physiology course in undergrad will make your life MUCH MUCH easier while in dental school. such courses also help with DAT (they helped me at least)
