To fellow IMG's...

I do know that a couple of my AMG friends who among them have failed step 1 either once or more have already had invites unlike IMGs who have either not heard anything or have gotten much fewer invites albeit no failures. It does pay to have gone to a US med school, but for those of us who either partied too much or had personal tribulations during undergrad. or did not know the "right" person had to resort to an offshore med. school, well, c'est la vie.

Yeah, it's still early for IMGs.
Last year I got my first invite Sept. 29th, and I have very high board scores, so don't worry too much. My own program doesn't even invite anybody until mid October, they like to take their time and get quality interviews. They always fill each year.
A friend of mine who is an IMG and leaving surgery internship for psych just got his first interview at a middle of the road program.
Hope that helps ease your concern a bit.

thanks for the info....do you know if NY/NJ programs in general tend to invite late?
BTW, where is your program if you dont mind me asking?
Hi guys,
I am an IMG with OK scores. So far I got one interview in NYC ... They sent me an email about 10 days ago... but that's pretty much it.
I am even starting to wonder if its worth applying to more programs.
Good luck to everyone!!!
It seems that being an IMG is such an inconvenience, and that no matter how good you are, the invites tend to come a bit later.

I applied to only on NJ program last year, Seton Hall, because it was new and the name sounded cool, I liked the universities colors, and I was in the neighborhood anyway and very curious. Didn't rank it because I decided I didn't want to live in Newark. Really nice docs there, very competent residents was my impression, they see everything there, get international patients I was told due to the big airport.thanks for the info....do you know if NY/NJ programs in general tend to invite late?

Got the interview invite there first week of October last year.
Again, don't worry too much - there are a lot of factors involved in when you are invited. US grads always tend to get first dibs on interviews, even if they aren't quite as impressive with board scores or application materials - not fair, I know. Some programs do first-come-first-serve after that, some will rank by step 1 scores, still others get moved up for an excellent personal statement, or if you did a rotation near by, are from the area, etc.

Ended up in Arizona, very happy here.
I found that the east coast or anywhere it snows a lot wasn't really my ideal place for residency after away rotations and interviews, but I don't regret any of the experiences. I learned a lot, and people back east were very kind to me.
I'll hang on to the last shred of my online "anonymity" beyond that for now.

I'm an AMG with pretty good scores, and I haven't heard from over half of the schools I applied to (all schools in the south by the way). It is still early......or better be. 🙂

Agree with this. I think I've heard from half of mine, and I'm an AMG and only 2 of the programs I applied to are considered "competitive" by most people. It's definitely still early, especially for IMGs. Chillax, it'll happen 🙂

well, my package is complete, and my scores are 95/99....and i got 3/35...so i would not be so upset like you soundWell, I do not know guys... I am an IMG and as I said, pretty good scores (at least I thought they were OK), research, awesome letters from well known US psychiatrist. And so far only 3 🙁 out of 40
I wonder how other IMGs are doing.
I got those 2 as wellYea, where is everyone?
I am happy to say I received my first two invites:
UMDNJ-Camden
Mt. Sinai-Elmhurst
Yippee skippy 🙂
when did you schedule them?

Beth Israel
When did you get an invite from them?
Is it still relatively early to be getting invites?
For amg's no...for img's i would expect some more. Thats just from what other residents at various programs have been telling me.
I've only been on two interviews so far, and I've been told by two different attendings(1 from each program) that they either aren't going to interview any img's this year, or are going to interview far fewer than usual.
Last year the number of img's in psychiatry saw a moderate dip. I think this year the dip will be more pronounced, and the majority of those img slots will be in the northeast region.
That's just based on what I've been hearing so far this cycle though.

Elmhurst, Tufts, Stony Brook.
Is it too late to hope for more?
Wondering the same thing myself. I'm hoping that as AMGs cancel, more invites will come our way.
Fsakman: What did you think of Elmhurst?
Has anyone been offered this?
I was offered three and accepted one. 🙂
How did you get 3 pre-match offers? Magnetic personality, great interviewer, super psych background. You must have an outstanding overall profile. I'd really love to know if you don't mind, because I thought I'd get far more, but it seems this year has brought on a new level of competition.
Anyway, congratulations on such an achievement!!

I'm not sure...😕 I had a decent application, good board scores. Some programs commented on my unique personal statement. I felt like I interviewed well. I only applied to midwest programs so maybe other regions are more competitive.
