Hey there.
Just wanted to give you all some insight into the OHSU application /interview process re the feedback on the interview section of this website. I am a first year at OHSU and have been hosting several interviewees this year.
The campus really ISN'T isolated. It is incredibly easy to trasport yourself around here, get downtown etc. Although they scare you about lack of parking, a spot can easily be purchased. I know NO ONE who wants to park up here and can't. As a third year, you wouldn't be required to come somewhere at 2 am, that doesn't happen. And your clerkships are spread out at many hospitals through out the city so no worries. OHSU is rnaked # 2 in primary care for a reason- you get taught well in ALL 4 YEARS.
But many people will tell you that studnets here have a lot of free time. 😱 This is pretty much bull. You are going to medical school, you can kiss your free time good bye. Just becuase of the class scheduling ( 8-12 everyday) don't be fooled. Your time will fill very quickly. In state applicants be ware- OHSU will not offer instate tuition next year becuase of the crazy way that this state is run, the fact that Salem doesn't value the medical school etc. It is true that there is basically no scholarship etc money here. 🙁 There isn't money here period. THe good news is that the quality of the program has soared since OHSU started accepting so many more out of state people. This year 315 Oregonians applied and only half of those met their in statequals. After interview, even fewer were qualified. SO expect next years class to have ALOT of out of staters.
One last thing: our class isn't as undiverse as you might think. WE certainly have less diversity than , say, Harvard but numbers wise they are pretty much on par with all the UC that I interviewed at, Stanford, UWash better than Vandy Trying to think of other places I interviewed. Just a few clarifying points. 🙂
