To pursue a DDS program

Hi everyone.
I'm a dental graduate-BDS (Bachelor in Dental Surgery) from Bangalore, India. I am very, very, very, very.... very keen on pursuing a DDS program from a reputed university in USA. I request all the info, advice and guidance from International Dentists who have successfully completed their DDS or those who are aspiring to do so.

I request the following details:
1) I'm a foriegn Dentist: how can i practice Dentistry in USA? 👍

2) If i have to complete DDS again (i.e. i already am a BDS, and i HAVE to do a DDS program again) to obtain a license to practice, How long will the course take- 4 years 🙁 or only 2 years 😀 ?

3) How do i get into DDS? what exams do i need to clear and by what scores?

4) Which are the universities offering DDS program to Foriegn Dentists? And which amongst them are rated as the top 5/ are very reputed?

5) will i be given any grants/scholarships? How much will the DDS progeam cost me?

6) how much does it cost to live in America? what will be the cost of living for a normal/subtle lifestyle?

I will be very greatful and obliged to recieve all the info and advice from anyone.

to answer ure questions...:

1) I'm a foriegn Dentist: how can i practice Dentistry in USA? 👍

to practice dentistry , most states require u to go thru dental school again .
there are states where u can do advanced training and get ure liscence .. check out the ADA website.. under international students liscencure guidlines.

2) If i have to complete DDS again (i.e. i already am a BDS, and i HAVE to do a DDS program again) to obtain a license to practice, How long will the course take- 4 years 🙁 or only 2 years 😀 ?

depending on the university it depends on 2 or 3 years.its definately not 4 yrsa..🙂

3) How do i get into DDS? what exams do i need to clear and by what scores?

to get into a DDS programme , u need to clear ure NBDE part 1 and some colleges require part 2.. scores ... well higher the better , atleast early 90 as the competition has reallly increased, u may manage with a high 80 too.... but too be sure ... the higher the better

u will also need to give ure TOEFL ... min scores depend on the university , usually max any college asks for is 250 on CBT

plus u also need to send all ure marksheets etc... to ECE to get ure GPA evaluated.

4) Which are the universities offering DDS program to Foriegn Dentists? And which amongst them are rated as the top 5/ are very reputed?

well the important thing is to get into an international student programme , the shorter, cheaper the better....'
a few colleges are BU , UPENN,NYU, UCSF , UCLA, UOP , USC
not in that order .
there are others too.... if u do a serch on this forum , ull get a lot of inof .. plus check out links of interest to dental students.

5) will i be given any grants/scholarships? How much will the DDS progeam cost me?
no grants or scholarships....approx $ 1,50,000 ... some colleges are more...
depends on the university....

6) how much does it cost to live in America? what will be the cost of living for a normal/subtle lifestyle?
usually university fees includes housing ..
it depends on whetehr ure sharing accomodation or living on uire own.
usually ure monthly expenses will be min 1200-1500$ if ure sharing accomodation... but then it depends on the area where u will be staying plus ure lifestyle........

Click this link and go through the pdf document on licensing procedure in USA. If possible take a print out as you will need to consult this document from time to time. You will find answers as well as guidance to most of your questions. Toothie has answered rest of them.

If yes, then upto what fraction of the whole tuition fees? and approx in what period am i required to repay?

u can apply for a loan..but if u have a co sponser its easier...
im not aware about the loan process as yet.. im sure somebody else will be able to guide you..
this has been a widely spoken about topic.. do a search.. plus check out links... i do know that the entire fees for the entire duration will be covered,

All your questions are extremely basic. Go to the Useful Threads Link and read EACH AND EVERY link properly. You will find all answers there.

Also get used to finding out info for yourself. It will help you in the long run.
