I'm tired of people misspelling stuff. I know most of us are not English experts, but the spell check underlines the incorrect spellings in red!
Here's a rule: "i" before "e" except after "c". Therefore, received would be the correct spelling- NOT "recieved". The word "to" should not be confused with "too". Too is used when there is an excess of something, e.g. too difficult or too much.

Oh, for heaven's sake. This is NOT a text message; you aren't being charged for every character and you don't have to fit it all in a 2"x2" screen. Write out the darn words!!!!

Seriously people- with all the hand-wringing and worrying going on around here over personal statements and essay questions, one would think that smart folks would realize it's in their best interests to take advantage of an opporunity to use real language, including grown-up words...... especially for our forum members whose first language was something other than English. People should take the time to re-read what they write. It's free practice!

I'm the same way with noticing all the errors like that. I just overlook them. I mean, I reread my entries like five times before I post; however, even then I'm sure I still have little errors like that. You'll notice that many of my posts will have edits under them (usually its for grammatical mistakes).

Yes, but you're not one of the ones sitting here wondering why sosmeone with a lower GPA than you got selected and you didn't, or someone whose PCT wasn't as spectacular as yours got in but you got waitlisted, or any other various and sundry whine...... ;-)

I guess you're joking and would really write "there". Anyway, I just think it is important for pharmacists, interns, and technicians to spell correctly. Many of us pay or have paid expensive tuition to become pharmacists. It just seems wasteful for professionals to use typos. I know this forum is much more casual than the practice of pharmacy, but sloppy typing, especially at a busy retail pharmacy, can lead to problems.

I think its hilarious when people bring up this topic....especially when in a heated discussion/ verbal pissing contest. When someone brings up spelling, they dont have a counter-arguement/ point and you won.

Correct spelling on the internet is a completely different ballpark then typing med directions. Fortunately being a slave to the kroger empire has its advantages. You type in the sig code and it spells everything for you. Sweet deal, huh?

I think that poor grammar annoys me more than spelling errors. Lots of people can transpose letters while typing.

My pet peeve is when people confuse EXCEPT and ACCEPT. They mean totally different things, but sound similar. A friend of mine gets annoyed when people use IT'S instead of ITS. IT'S is a contraction meaning IT IS, the other form is the possessive.

The word species drives me nuts. But rotweiler (one L) is German, so it doesn't count! 🙄 And if you know the whole rhyme, it goes, "I before E, except after C, or when sounding like A, as in neighbor and weigh."

I don't have any smart remarks about caffeine, codeine & protein, though. But according to wikipedia, all chemical names have this exception too.

Hmmm... come to think of it, most of the pharmacies where I have worked have either a Starbucks inside the store or one across the street. (In the case of one of the stores where I work, there's a Starbucks inside the grocery store AND one across the street!)

At my pharmacy, there's a nurse who writes her doctor's prescriptions and always writes Byetta 10mcg 1 po bid. Either she doesn't realize that po means by mouth or that Byetta is an injection 😕.

Don't sweat the small stuff. You know what the nurse meant.... It's your ability to read what's not visible that will make you a better professional. Anyone can read what's spelled out for them. That's easy.

Every time I see your avatar, it makes me think you're laying down the law or saying, "hey, get back to work!"
I couldn't imagine editing spread sheets like that. You probably have to settle for some ridiculously written directions, even though they could be written better, just to save time and your sanity.

There are no directions. I need to sort the data..then dump it into my clinical tool spread sheet which will spit out data into orgainzed charts and graphs which I will use to analyze clinical pharmacy financials for an hospital.

Have fun doing that 😉. That job sounds more like actuary or finance than pharmacy. I had thought about actuary briefly when I was wait listed for pharmacy school, but I decided I wanted a second degree in Economics. Thankfully, I didn't have to complete another BA degree.

I actually enjoy this part of my job. I also enjoy presenting this stuff...I also enjoy implementing clinical/financial programs... and traveling. At the end of the day, patients benefit, hospitals save money, pharmacists get an increased sense of job satisfaction.

I wish I could find my niche. It seems like most of the pharmacists I know either find their niche in the industry or go home crying every day. I'm thinking about hospital administration. I need to set up an appointment at a hospital in Slidell, La to shadow. Clap your hands, because you've inspired me to make that phone call .

Slidell still around? I used to be a hospital pharmacy administrator. If you're thinking of hospital administration...then you'll want to look in to an MHA degree.

The PGY2 residency that I would love to do after a PGY1 offers an additional stipend for an MBA. I wish I had decided about administration earlier. I would have studied for the GMAT this summer. I guess I still have time.

MBA may allow more opportunites. But MHA will fast track you to hospital administration, COO or CEO route.

I have too many other things to worry about than how people spell or what whatever. I mean really, sometimes im typing so fast on here that i mispell a word. At work, when I am inputting, I double check what I typed. does it really matter?
