I did not finish the PS in the August 2005 MCAT. I bubbled in 10 questions at the end because I ran out of time. I was scoring 9's and a 10 on my last AAMC practice exams so I did not void. Slightly concered I was going to choke big time but came out with a 10 on the real deal! 😍

It's tough to put this behind you but try to not stress out too much if you were scoring well on AAMC practice exams. :luck:

I wonder if I'm the only one in the world that left one blank. God, it's the Darwin Award for Premeds. I didn't see it!!

Hey HG, I wanted to tell you I thought of you on the test everytime I looked down to see the source of the article at the bottom. 🙂 Thanks

Caboose.

i guess you can say that if you were not freaked out during the test. during practice tests, i could feel that i was doing okay. during the real PS section, i could feel that i was doing bad.

I froze the first 10 minutes. I reread the first passage 2 times and could not figure it out so forced myself to move on and went back to it later. The girl next to me must've started on the stand-alones because she started answering questions 30 seconds into the exam. I never took practice MCATs with other people and that freeked me out. I could not help it but had the feeling of impending doom until I finally finished and had my strong sections to look forward to.

Were they all in one spot at the end of the exam? I never saw them on the real deal. Hope it helped or at least gave you a mental boost of confidence.

The best practice exams I've taken are the ones I feel bad about - vice versa.

They were at the end of each passage. Not only did I get to confirm the main idea and tone, but I got some awesome tips on what not to read ever in my life... ever. If there's a class that includes one of those books even for optional reading I'll avoid it at all costs.

That thing was horrible.
I took tons of practice exams, timed myself to 7 minutes per passage and also practiced doing 100 minutes straight. But it's very different on the real test, because there are people around you, and you are stressed, and you KNOW that this isn't just practice, and that if it sucks you're going to have to take it again. I found myself hurrying up during the second half, after they announced we only had 45 minutes left. I answered every single question (I didn't do any random bubbling), but on 2 or 3 passages in physics, I would first read the questions, and I would answer them by looking back at the passage, instead of reading first. This was the only thing that allowed me to finish, because it is sometimes easy to get caught in all the innecessary details in the passage.

I'm glad it's over, but I'm not so sure I'm glad I took it.

I definitely left a question blank in the Aug 2005 MCAT. With like 10 seconds left I still had a few questions, but they were all over the place. When time was called, I put my pencil down but then suddenly saw that I left a question blank. I thought about quickly grabbing my pencil but the proctor was staring right at me!!

Anyway, it was the only thing I could think about for the 60 days after the test, until I finally got my scores, which I was very happy with. So don't let that ONE questions ruin your summer!! :luck:

I ended up just putting a C in a question that I ran out of time, but other than that I finished everything. The funny thing is that when I took the AAMC practice exams I figured to just go for it and not think too much. I always ended up with at least 15 minutes to spare, but I wanted to make sure I read everything twice and took the time to answer everything right.
I guess I was more relaxed during practice.

That's also great new to those that did finish. It would mean you can afford to get a few wrong and still end up with a pretty decent score! Thanks for the confidence boost!

Hi guys. I just read this and it made me feel slightly better. I am really worried about Saturday because I didnt finish the PS section. I had 2 passages left when she called 5 minutes so I just bubbled in A and I think (dont even remember now) that I had time to go read the questions of 3 (but not the passage so...) and change my answer. I dont know where time went, I have never not finished before. I was consistently getting 11's on the AAMC exams....Im just hoping and praying that htere might be a way to get a 10 even without not finishing 2 passages?

I felt pretty good about verbal and Bio so Im praying that my physical does not mess up my whole score. Im going out of the country this summer so I cant take the August MCAT!!!

This thread gives me a bit of hope. I did not finish and was scoring 10-11 on practice exams. I turned my worry into complete focus after that section.

Hey Brittnay, I'm in the same boat as you. I didnt' get to 2 passages in the PS section either, which I found butt-hard compared to all the practice tests I took! Did you have form CQ by any chance?

I hope the same holds true for verbal hehe, I didnt finish a passage and thats really bothering me now: /

I had form D. I definately thought it was harder than the AAMC practice tests I had taken. It took me longer to figure out what they were talking about and I guess thats what got me with the timing! I had alot more math than I expected. I keep worrying about that section now....its going to be a LONG 2 months!

I was in a different situation. They didn't let me use my timer (i cut the wire from the speaker so it's silent) so I couldn't time myself the way I did while I took my practice exam. Plus, I was an idiot and I forgot to bring my watch. Dammit, they let me use it for the August one! I guess I had really strict proctors, overall they were cool though.

So when they called 45 minutes, I suddenly started to panic and I zoomed through the rest of the exam finishing with 15 minutes extra time.. Not too cool. I ended up going back and changing about 7 answers, hopefully they were the correct changes. Good luck to the rest of you! For me, I'm going to rely on God =)

when he called time I realized I had left 2 questions blank! I never forgot to bubble in unanaswered ones while doing practice exams. I felt so freaked out, I cried. And I felt all depressed for verbal. Grrr, hoping for the best....

Yeah, I didn't do well on PS. It feels good to hear other people stressin about the PS section as well. Mine had a ton of calculations (form BG) and for some reason, I just kind of froze on remembering equations. So I ended up having to randomly bubble in four questions and completely guess on a number of the calculation ones. On aamc 7 & 9 I got a 14 in PS. Now I'm just praying for a 10...

Never had I seen so many calculation problems on an mcat, there must've been like 20. Did any of you have that passage that was about medical problems (burns, broken bones) but not one question was about the passage and each one of the seven or so questions was just a random stand-alone calculation problem? ugh... I'm depressed

I also had form BG but I don't recall there being as many calculation problems as you mentioned. I also had a hard time with all the calculations and unit conversions so I just guessed on a few and moved on. I ended up finishing comfortably so I think I made the right choice. On practices I could sometimes get hung up on some calculations problems and that messed up my mojo so I made sure not to do that. Message me on AIM if you want to discuss. AIM: mecutelee

OMG I thought I was the only one! I felt so horrible afterwards I went home and puked my guts out! :scared:
