To those who have accepted...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My thoughts exactly and the very reason I am acting as if I am rejected this cycle and will be (hopefully) moving back to my undergrad in August for a kick butt job.
I agree completely, but I think it was Kansas that had to delve into their rejected students a couple/few years back, which is probably why they have this stupid grey zone. Not saying it's right for them to do at all, and they should have just interviewed more, but that's probably why it exists....

Although CSU doesn't interview, they've done a similar thing where they un-reject OOS applicants who'd been rejected in Dec when the first round of decisions came out. Apparently they blew through the non-sponsored (OOS) alternate list and moved into the top people on the rejected list. I've heard it has happened two different years and know one current DVM student who was rejected, went on with her life and then suddenly, out of the blue received an offer to attend CSU three weeks before class started. Completely caught her off guard!

I heard the same thing. It was something like 6 years ago that they had to go into their rejections list. I was holding on to hope for this last year because I was interviewed and really waitlisted then, but, alas, it was not meant to be. lol.

I've heard the same thing here, too. I'm IS for CSU and have applied for the last two cycles. Have you heard anything about them going into the rejected list for IS students? I saw that they notified you of a non-sponsored seat even though you're IS.

I am not certain if the person I know who was called off the rejected list was IS or OOS, but I got the impression she's IS because she was complaining about the OOS tuition.

Yeah, I've been offered a OOS spot for the past two years. Declined it again this year. Just too friggin expensive for me. Still hoping to get called with a sponsored spot this year.

Almost time to reapply. Oh Lordy!

Why do you keep applying OOS if you aren't going to accept a spot because it's too expensive?

I think their IS school offered them an OOS seat. Or something like that. From the context of the previous post.

Oooh. That makes more sense, lol. I was confused!

Has anyone heard of wait list movement at Atlantic Veterinary College so far?

Because applying is soooo fun and I have nothing better to do with my life or money!

Just kidding, like WildZoo said, I'm IS and they have offered me an OOS spot twice now, but not an IS spot. CSU commonly offers IS alternates OOS spots that come open. OOS tuition is double the IS.

Just got an instate spot offered to me today!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!! Finally!!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!! I start classes tomorrow morning!!

Super thrilled for you!!!!!!!!!!! Have a bomb first day of class!!!!

i just saw this thread and then i clicked on the electrophile thread and then i lolled

And now I have the urge to change my status to: "Basement creeper" or "Professional Ninja".....

Damn it, you can't just type in whatever you want for a status anymore.... :rage::yeahright:

I just went down a tunnel and now I miss some posters from back when and also feel quite old.

*dramatic soap opera music*
Did @cowgirla ever find out if the letter waiting with her landlord was fat or skinny? Will she ever hear back from Oregon? Tune in next week for oh wait she graduated with her DVM degree a year and a half ago.

I feelz special. And old.

I would just like to say that the very idea of getting accepted to vet school and then starting classes literally the next day gives me a bit of a panic attack.
Yeah, that happended. Was in less than 24 hours from when I was notified to when I was in class. So thankful for this, but, yeah... woa nelly... a bit crazy, indeed.

Someone in my class started a full week 'n a half after school started. 🙂

How does this happen? You have tell schools by April 15 that you want to go there, so how is it possible that someone is excepted to the school in August or after school even starts!? I'm so confused.

They were most likely pulled off a waitlist, which is a group of unranked or ranked people that have to see if there are spots available after people decide which school to go to. Just about every school has a few spots to fill after April 15th (If a school gave out 100 acceptances for 60 spots, let's say only 50 accepted it), so then they have the waitlist to turn to. I was pulled off one in very late July, and I know others that were pulled off a waitlist in August.

What Ashgirl said.

Schools will go through multiple iterations of sending out acceptances, waiting for the deadline, sending out more offers to fill remaining seats with a new deadline, wait for the deadline, send out more offers .... they just keep going through the process until all the seats are full. In our case, we started school with all seats full but then someone had to drop and someone was pulled from the wait list to fill the spot.

P.S. Spelling nazi says 'accepted' not 'excepted'.

I imagine someone got my spot in mid-August when I had to defer. That thought kind of makes me happy - someone else got pulled off a waitlist, and I still get to go next year. Kind of a win-win 🙂
I was definitely thinking of you when I made my last post! While I'm sad you aren't V19, it appears everything is working out for the best.

But the necrobump post is like not even about what the initial thread was about...

I was seriously worried when I saw this thread bumped that someone had quoted the OP and said "Just a reminder to everyone going into this cycle....."

I was already face-palming until I saw what the more recent post actually was.

It is called autocorrect. I know how to spell!

I'm going to be very blunt: you need to think about next cycle.

As of this point you need to consider yourself more as a rejected applicant than a waitlisted applicant. I know that it sucks but you need to move forward and start preparing for the next cycle. The application opens in may and is due a full month earlier this next year. You don't want to be caught applying again and having nothing different about your application.

I applied 3 years in a row, was waitlisted all 3 years and never got off those lists (was accepted somewhere that last year but was still sitting on 2 waitlists). You need to start thinking that you are not going to vet school because you aren't currently. I'm not saying this to be mean but to make you realize that your time frame for improving your application for next year is decreasing rapidly. Get working on improvements now and if you do get off, then great, if not you'll have a good talking point on what you've improved for the next cycle.

Taking into account everything stated, I find it to be great advice. I like blunt and honest. I am now slightly freaking out I know I prob shouldn't be. I have only had 1 interview and I was put on the alternate list. I haven't heard anything from the other 6 schools I applied to (I know it's still pretty early in the admissions process). I know my weak points of my application are my GPA/GRE scores, but I know from previous replies on other posts that isn't all they look at, but as a personal thing I would like to increase them. My only dilemma now is if I want to tackle increasing those before the next application cycle I should really get on that now? Or am I jumping the gun? Should I wait to hear from the other schools or will that be too late esp for folder reviews to see what else my application could be missing? When is too soon...

It's never too soon to work on improving your application for the next cycle. If you wait until you hear back from every school, it might be too late to really improve enough to make a difference.

This.

If you wait until the cycle is over, which could be as late as February/March for some schools, then you only have until the application is due (September) to improve things. Which doesn't give you much time at all. However if you start sooner, then you have even more time to make improvements.
