I just received another interview invite (to Tufts). I've already been accepted to my first choice (and 3 others). Is there any reason to go to the Tufts interview? I would love to turn it down so that the spot can be passed on to someone else in need. However, my mother has planted seeds in my head that I shouldn't let anything go because you never know what could happen.
I've passed my background check and am mailing my deposit on Monday. As long as I don't fail classes and take all my pre-reqs and don't become a felon, is there any reason I would be rejected from a school I'm already accepted to? (also realizing that doing any of those things listed would get me rejected from all schools 😛)

I'm pretty sure I already know the thing to do, just want to quiet any doubts.
Thanks!

First off, Congratulations! Secondly, I would definitely take the Tufts interview, considering is it's pretty much the best school on your list. I think you'd agree once you interview there, tour the facilities, and talk to current students. BU - once you do your SDN research, you'll probably turn that down in a heartbeat. MWU-IL - not accredited. Indiana - not nearly as reputable as Tufts.

Depends on the school, when the interview is set for (date) versus the date that you have to make your deposit on the acceptances. Or forego the acceptances.

I got an interview at CWRU on Dec 1st. Got my top choice schools acceptances and decided to pass on the interview.

I agree with gunner.
Tufts seems to be the best school on your list.
I interviewed there and they definitely have a great program that would be good for you to see. Their facilities are some of the best I have seen and the student there are very happy.

If Indiana is cheaper than Tufts by 50K or more, I wouldnt even attend the Tufts interview. Meanwhile if the price is comparable and you dont mind living in Boston, then you should check it out.

Going to Indiana is $120,000 cheaper....plus, I loved the school. I have nothing against Boston- my sister lived there 6 years. I think it's a great city. But if I'm accepted to a school that I love and has half the price tag, then should I really go look at another one?

I think you answered your own question 🙂 that 120K will grow to be a hefty 150 or so by the time you graduate. I'm sure you love your sister and all, but fiscally I would choose the cheaper option, esp if you can still live at home and save on the cost of food, rent and laundry 🙂

I dont want to totally discount everyone elses advice on here. I think Indiana is a fine school and so its Tufts. I just dont believe its worth the significant addition of debt (esp since Boston is quite an expensive city to live in, I've heard that rent is comparable to NYC.)

If I were in your position, I wouldn't go to the interview. Instead, I would attend my state school. It's much cheaper. My friend who is a 2nd year at Tufts right now regrets going to Tufts only because of the tuition... he says he wished he waited another year to reapply and get into his state-school. But this is only an opinion. It's ultimately up to you 🙂 Good luck!

No. If you have no intention of going to Tufts and you're already accepted at Indiana where it's cheaper, then don't go. Think about it, what's going to be so AMAZING at Tufts that you're willing to pay $120,000? Save yourself the plane ticket + hotel + rental car and buy yourself something nice 👍

Once you're accepted to school, you're accepted. They're not going to take it away unless you do something completely idiotic like DUI or fail all your spring classes. Tell your mom to relax, you're in!

. he says he wished he waited another year to reapply and get into his state-school.

Your friend says that but there's no guarantee that he would have gotten in next year to his state school. Or the next year. Or the year after that. He should be thankful that he at least got in somewhere. A lot of people flame out and never make it to dental school no matter how many times they apply.

That's true. But he says he applied realllllly late... his stats are pretty good for his state schools ... he has a 3.55ish cGPA with a 23AA. I believe if he reapplied again and completed everything in MAY/JUNE for TMDSAS application, he'd be golden. 🙂

There was a a thread about this recently actually. This person had good stats like your friend with an even higher GPA. They interviewed at all the Texas schools and didn't get an acceptance on Dec. 1. Now they're hoping to get one later in the cycle. So you never know, especially in Texas.

There's no guarantees anywhere. Maybe good chances, but nothing's for sure.

If you pretty much decided to go to your state school already, don't go because I needs Tufts xD lol...

got the invitation today too! im turning it down because I've already gotten into my state school as well! 🙂

If you already got accepted to your first choice, I don't see any reason to go to that interview, but it's up to you.

Tufts is a great school. It has a really good reputation. I would go to the interview. Who knows, it might end up being your first choice after interviewing there.
