So I have sent/completed all secondaries between late July and late August, and still have yet to hear a peep from schools, albeit a few rejections from schools that were a reach anyway (primarily in-state acceptance and I am OOS)

I have written a pre-interview update letter, but before I send it, I just wanted to make sure this won't be viewed negatively.

First, how early is too early to send an update letter, pre-interview.

Second, how big of an update is worth a letter? Obviously, a publication, but volunteering for a new clinical organziation, taking a new class (I'm a non-trad, ASL class) etc etc

Thanks!

i think it's fine to send an up-date letter on any topic 🙂 your letter will let the school know that you're still interested for admission 😀

but back to updates, i agree that talking about being published is great 👍 being involved in a new volunteer program is also good. but taking a new class might not be worth mentioning unless you have midterm progress reports/grades.
