this is a bit confusing, so i'm sorry that it'll take a while to explain, but here it goes:

i'm going to be a second semester sophomore in the spring. i'm transferring from a mediocre state school to an ivy. i have a 3.5 and 74 units completed.

of those, i have gen chem I and II, and calc A and B as far as med school requirements go. i avoided taking bio last semester because i was told that i might not get accepted to the ivy if i took a lab science.

next semester, i plan on taking bio I. because i'm behind, i was planning on taking bio II over the summer at my previous school. i know that i should be taking orgo along with it, but as of right now i'm planning on getting my masters before applying to med school, so i figured i could spread my sciences out (1 per year).

my questions are as follows:
1. i got a B in gen chem I and a C (eep) in gen chem II. should i retake gen chem II at my old school during the summer also?
2. i got an A in calc A and a B in calc B. my chem grades are B and C, and my lab grades are A- and B. does this already make me less competitive for med school?
3. will it be horrible that i have my requirements done at 2 different schools? so far, i've been thinking it's okay because i will be taking bio I, orgo I and II, and physics I and II at my new school.
4. will it be bad that i'm taking bio II over the summer? i've taken summer classes before, and they are still difficult and still cover all of the material that you normally would during the semester (as far as i know), but i know that they're generally looked down upon. it's hard for me to fit in additional classes in my new school because i need to fulfill all of my major requirements (of my 74 credits, only 49 are transferring over, and none go towards my major. all are electives).
5. if it's possible, should i take my summer classes at my new school? i doubt that this will happen because the price difference (plus dorming and all that jazz) is really huge, but if i have to, i'll look into it more seriously.

Well, you still have plenty of time, so don't worry about that. As far as taking chem over, I would wait to see how you do with your other pre-reqs.

Why do you want to transfer? If you are transferring to and ivy because you think it will give you a significantly better chance, I would think again. It may give you a little boost, but not enough for it to be worth it to transfer IMO.

You can take bio in the summer, just be prepared to devote the time to it.

EDIT: You will probably need to take the MCAT later than most, in your senior year, or after you graduate. Not a huge deal though.

i'm transferring because i hate my school but also because the ivy's a lot more prestigious. i also really like my future major, which my school doesn't have, and i absolutely love the school. i went to visit every 2 weeks because my boyfriend is there, and i love the whole atmosphere and everything about it. they send a good amount of students to med schools, too, which my old school didn't despite being full of pre-meds.

i will definitely put a lot of time into my bio summer class. as for taking chem over, i wanted to get it over with asap because i took it last spring, and i think i should retake it when it's still somewhat fresh in my head.

thanks for responding 🙂

I trust you are transferring for the right reasons. Keep on track and know that your transfer may come up in interviews. Best of luck!

bump to see if there are any more opinions 🙂

bumping is discouraged around here, just so you know. 🙄

i'd take the classes where you think you have the best chance of getting a good grade. it is very difficult for medical schools to weight the difficulty of classes among the thousands of undergrad institutions. yeah, prestige means something, but an A means more.
