Too late to apply? Questions about applying to KU specifically. HELP!

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if I have completely missed the boat on applying. Originally I planned on applying early in the summer but things just didn't seem to work out. A busy schedule combined with a little anxiety about applying have gotten me to September. I am wondering if it is too late to be applying or if I should go ahead and do it. I think I can be done in the next week or so. Most of the app is done but it will probably take a few weeks to get the rest of my LORs. I am primarily looking at KU MED. I don't want this to turn into one of the "how are my chances threads" but I will include some of my info at the end just so people can evaluate my situation properly. Basically I need to know if KU is going to completely overlook me because I am applying so late. How much does the rural Kansas/disadvantaged status matter? To be honest, I didn't realize there was a section regarding that on the application when I began. Anyone else apply to KU late? Thanks.

MCAT: V: 12 P:10 B:10
GPA: 3.5 science 3.61 overall (Double major Bio/Chem)
Kansas Resident that grew up in rural area in a poor family (I am applying as a disadvantaged/from underserved area)
I have had to work throughout college and have had several jobs in the healthcare field. Also, I have enjoyed lot's of extracurriculars but haven't had the time to devote consistently to volunteer work. Mostly weekend stuff and big events here and there.

Others may disagree, but looking "primarily" at one school is a really, really bad idea regardless of when you're applying. Ten schools minimum, especially with stats that are good but not way above national average.

That being said, if your AMCAS is not yet complete, you won't be verified until mid-September, and your secondaries probably won't be done until October. That is late in the game, even for non-SDNers. Most successful applicants (my former health advisor, who was president or something of the undergrad premed advisor's association for like 90 years said this) have submitted their AMCAS by July 1, not September 1.

Do you have something to do for a year? Wait until next year and apply June 2nd or whenever it is, and crush this process. Don't go into it half-heartedly.

I would just do it, in addition to any other state schools. You already submitted your amcas, so shelling out a few more dollars to see what happens is not that bad. If it were me, I would just do it. Its late but its not like its October already. People get accepted that apply late. Just my opinion! 🙂

I keep getting mixed signals about timeliness. Is it late if secondaries are submitted around Sept 1, and letters sent mid Sept?
