I am one of the waitlisted folks and just started learning about SMP's.

Do you think it is too late to apply for one of these as a fallback? Some of them are rolling admissions until June 1. Can I LOR's from my app or do they need to directly talk about the specific SMP rather then med school?

I started reading about UCinn, which i willl research more. I am also assuming some of you are in the know about my questions. In this vein, are there opinions as to whether an allo SMP will garner more results than a DO SMP?

I am still deciding when to reapply b/c I have those waitlists and obviously want to conserve monies/time/

Thanks for any replies.

I applied right before the SMP deadline few yrs back as well. Only got WL on the programs (including UCinn) with no luck in the end. If they are rolling admission, most spots may have been filled by now. I do feel that SMP would leave some spots for those WL for med but you gotta have steller MCAT marks to have a chance. Just my two cents.

personally I think that MOST SMP's are a complete waste of time...

I actually went to a SMP program and essentially found that 50% of the promises made on websites/forums were untrue. I ended up leaving the program within a couple months with a boatload of debt and nothing good to show.

THAT being said....There are some SMP's that I would look into. Look into SMP's that have a HIGH matriculation rate into its own medical school...rosalind franklin comes to mind.....or look into medical school that guarantees acceptance with a certain gpa...Temple university comes to mind in that category...although it is late in the cycle for prob both of these places...don't just go to ANY smp thinking they are all the same, they are NOT.

Take this post as you will, it might just be a rant of a disgruntled former SMP student. I just applied again to med school the following year and got in.

To tell you the truth, I don't know you stats...but i would find getting more volunteer experience and getting a higher mcat score (even if you got a 35 before) would be a better option.
