too late to apply to NSU?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I applied about a week ago and just got a phone call saying that my application has been sent to be reviewed. I doubt they have filled up this early.

Hi. If you don't mind me asking, did they give you a date for the interview yet?

Yes, I interviewed on Nov 15th. They had multiple days open for interviews at the time I scheduled, including later in the month. When talking with some of their student ambassadors, they mentioned a class size is about 100 or so students, so that will take some time to fill up.

How was the interview? My interview is next Friday and I’m super nervous about it.

If you mean Nova, not full! I'm part of the 2024 facebook group and there's 20 other people in it. I'm sure there's a few people who don't have facebook or something but I'm sure there's still space. Apply soon for the best shot of course though 🙂

I had a positive experience. I wish I had prepared a little more for it, but it was relatively painless. There were about 7 or 8 of us interviewing that day and we interviewed with a faculty member in a closed-file, "get to know you" format with standard questions. Then we interviewed with an admissions person who had our file to ask us questions about our academics. Both of these were fairly brief. Then a third, quick talk with another admissions person to go over what is potentially missing as far as prerequisites. We also had lunch with the Dean of Admissions, who had read our files and asked us questions based on our essays or information we had submitted as part of our application. I was more nervous than I expected, but it was fun to meet and talk with the other students that were interviewing. We took a tour of the campus, which I thought was very big and beautiful and talked with student ambassadors about their experiences in optometry school. Everyone was very kind and relaxed and none of it felt overwhelming. My advice is to prepare for the common optometry school interview questions, know why you are interviewing at NOVA specifically, and to have conversational questions for the faculty members during the interview as well as the Dean if you feel comfortable enough. As you know, the interview starts really early compared to other schools, but I actually liked that I didn't have too much time to stress myself out on interview day haha.

Their class size is not very small, 90-100 students. Only schools out of the top of my head that has more is NECO, ICO & Salus. You have a lot of time, it's rolling admissions though so don't wait until March. Interview is pretty straight forward, exactly like what the previous people said. Check-in, interview one with open file, one with closed, one about prerequisites. Conversational, no technical questions about optometry. Don't stress, it's simply for them to gauge whether you have the social capacity, a lot of people can have amazing grades but can barely hold a 2 minute conversation without fidgeting or stuttering. If you speak clearly with concise answers and maintain basic things like posture and eye contact, you'll be hearing from the admissions office a week from your interview with good news.
