I got my CK score back Wednesday, a 256. I am considering adding a couple of reach schools such as Vanderbilt and Duke. Is it still possible to get an interview, or have they likely filled all their spots? Would it just be throwing away money?

Just go ahead and apply. It's pretty cheap to apply, I doubt they have filled all their spots and I don't think they even have sent out IVs yet. Good programs tend to wait for MSPEs.

Vandy is quite regionally biased. Duke is not as regionally biased.

You can always apply, but they're unlikely to take you seriously applying this late.

Your Step 2 score is decent, but nothing that will wow top tier programs to the point that they would look at your app before the hundreds of people already ahead of you.

Again, by all means apply, but don't expect much.

Seriously!? Applying "this late"? It;s not late at all to apply, there are a large # of programs that have yet to download anything or look at apps, not to mention even start giving out IVS! That is a great score, not an "decent" ok and OP is very likely to get invites if the rest of the app. is good. Come on now!

Damn, well I was under the impression 256 was much higher than what most people make, and significantly above the radiology average. Oh well. Maybe some upper middle tier programs will notice.

Lol, this is why SDN is ridiculous.

OP, I would apply. That's a great CK score and like others have said, its only two weeks into the cycle and deans letters haven't even been released yet. If anything I would try to apply today before the letters get released tomorrow so your app is complete with they start downloading again.

Just today I received an interview invitation from a program that I added late last week, you have hope!

Precisely what I said! To think that a 256 is only "decent" is just not right. Avg rads step 1 and 2 is much lower than that, and given the down turn in rads competitiveness, you can get into good programs with much less than that these days. And given that many good programs don't even start looking at apps until Dean's letters are out, it's not an issue to apply now.

As aPD said he doesn't care if someone applies on 9/15 or 9/30. As long as it's reasonable most apps are looked at. Also many programs review by step scores, so given the high step score of the OP, he is likely to get a look even if he did not submit right away.

We're not talking average.

Duke could easily fill with people who had 260+ on Step 1.

I forgot that things started a bit later this year (only 2 weeks out instead of a month), but still, sending a late app sends the message that you aren't really considering that place seriously.

Did I waste my time busting my ass to make a 256? What about with non-elite programs?
