Is it too late to start an application now? I know that based on school's deadlines, it's still okay for the most part. I'm just afraid that the chances of getting an acceptance is significantly lowered because of the delay.

I am originally from a foreign country but I graduated this year from a US university (was lucky enough to acquire permanent residency while here). I really want to start a career in medicine and to me, medicine = MD, simply because I didn't know about DO. I found out about DO pretty recently and the DO philosophy is very appealing and closer to my definition of medicine.

The only problem is that I don't have a lotr from a DO. But I figured I can go ahead and fill out the primary app and shadow a DO and obtain a lotr while I'm getting verified.

Thanks, I appreciate your inputs!

It's not too late if your stats are pretty good. Definitely shadow (preferably a DO) and get you application in. You may end-up on the wait list because interviews have started, but it is definitely worth a shot.

FYI I got my application in on the very last day of acceptance. I was wait listed and later accepted.

Good Luck

Yes, it's late in the season. I would seriously think about saving your money and time and streghthening your application for next year.

Not too late. I took the August MCAT and did not get my application in to my cuurent school until the deadline in March and still got in. But, I wouldn't recommend doing what I did - very stressful. As others have said, if you're a very competitive candidate, you definitely still have time. Just get that stuff in ASAP. Good Luck!

Every year there are people who wait until January to apply and still get into med school. The only people who are guaranteed not to get in are the ones who don't apply at all.

It's not too late if you have competetive stats.
I did not have a DO LOR (I was not able to get on from the DO I worked with) but had a strong MD LOR and was accepted at A.T. Still KCOM.
GOOD LUCK!
