Too Late to Apply?

yup, this is my q... is it too late for me to apply for DO? I am a canadian citizien, cgpa 3.59, mcat 30 S... not extensive extracurriculars.. local events...club exec...cancer relay...tutor in local high school...couple of hours at cancer hospital...

the thing is, I REALLY want to start my med school next year, i don't want to wait another year... and as it is my application has gotten delayed due to certain reasons.. i am applying to a few MD schools in US .. and I want to apply to few DO schools as well alongside.. but I am not sure which ones to apply too..

based on my stats, could some1 suggest some schools where I would have a chance of getting in, if i send in my primary application let's say this weekend, and secondary in next week or so.. i do not have a LOR from any canadian or US based MD/DO though..... which i read seems to be the major requirement of many DO schools 🙁

so guys, am i too late to apply? can i still apply to maybe one or two DO schools...and is yes, which schools shud i try applying to based on my stats?

You're not late, its mid cycle right now (although it may seem late by SDN standards), I would suggest you apply broadly (15 schools or so), you stats are competitive. Apply as soon as possible though!

Have you submitted the primary to AACOMAS yet? Because if you haven't, and it still needs to be verified, you may have a hard time getting in since that takes about a month.

^^no i havent 🙁 i am still trying to look through which schools i can appyl to, the only prob is i don't have english courses.. so either i need some school with 3 semester hours eng prereq, since i am taking an orgo and english course this jan... umm.. would it be possible for me to apply, and take a half year (1 and half month) eng course from may-june.. would the schools be ok with that? becuz while looking up some schools, i did see how one or two had mentioned applicants need to complete all prereq by july.. thats enuff time for me to finish any summer course i will need before matriculation..

anywayz i am going to send in my primary this weekend.. right now only to PCOM.. guess will go ahead and send it to some others as well..

any other schools that accept int. students AND do not REQUIRE a LOR by a physician?? (i am just wondering if it is possible to pay one of those walk-in doctors and get them to write a letter after reading this requirement in all these COM websites)

Have you submitted the primary to AACOMAS yet? Because if you haven't, and it still needs to be verified, you may have a hard time getting in since that takes about a month.

This isn't true for right now, assuming you have everything already taken care of (transcripts sent, personal statement written) verification time is about 7 days, 5 business days. Get started now, this was my experience (and others on this board) but your transcripts WILL slow you down if you didn't have them sent the day before yesterday.

Hello Friend,

Do the following before you submit:
1) rush your transcript
2) set up an interfolio account and plead with your referees to send their references online.

This way you should be getting secondaries at least by the second week of November (AACOMAS is not that slow in terms of verifying as per my experience.. Give it a try nevertheless.) See Canadian med forum as well
