Hey all,
yea, it's another one of those what are my chances thread, but I'd really appreciate advice righ now 🙁

I'm wondering whether it'd be wise to apply or wait a year.
I will be taking the DAT on September 26, I'd have loved to take it earlier in september, but no earlier dates are available. anyhow, I've been studying pretty hard, so I think (hope) I'll be doing about average or maybe a little above.

as for other stats:
GPA = 3.2, physics major (from one of the toughest schools in the US, do dental schools care?)
I took the UCLA pre-dental seminar and got a letter of rec from that

please let me know if it'd be worth it to try to start an application in late september, and which schools are better shots

thanks so much!

you have a chance, sure, apply. Deadlines aren't till next year i believe. Which schools do you want to apply to?

You would have a chance at getting in but, the question is, will you get into the school you want? If you apply next year very very very early, you'd have a much better chance to get in where you want, not just some expensive ass private school.

Give it a shot and see what happens. If you don't get in this year, all you lose is a few hundred bucks on the application process. If you *do*, though, you've just scored an extra year of earning power out in practice, which at the tail end of your career will likely be worth several hundred thousand dollars.

thanks guys!

as for which school I want to get in...well, my first choice is UCLA, but I realize that might be a little out of reach. So I don't really care at this point, which schools are "easier to get in"
thanks!

Similar question.

I plan on taking my DAT even later than sept 26th...my Kaplan course is over around November 13th and im looking to take the DAT around then, or maybe even in December if I am not ready. My grades are very competitive and I assume to do well on the DAT so I figure I have nothing to lose to try for this cycle.

Ok so my question is: When should I try to get my application and letters in by? I keep hearing I should get in the application ASAP but I need to get my letters. I am expecting my letters within the next 2-3 weeks but if it is extremely urgent to get my application in before I can resort to other letters. Whats the rush with getting my application in before my DAT?

haha...1 more question. Do you get to use a calculator for the DAT?

To answer a few of your questions:

When should you get your application in? The reason people say ASAP is because it depends on the school's deadline. Also, most schools have a rolling admissions policy...so the earlier the application the better the odds.

Are calculators allowed? Unfortunately, the answer is no.

if you don't care and just want to get in, then your not too late, apply...as for your first choice, give it a try, who knows, but keep some backups which are "easier to get into"

I wouldn't worry/think too much about anything else but to ninja star all over the exam. Get above a 23 across, and you shouldn't have to worry too much about your GPA. In my opinion.
