Hey guys. After 3 years of undergrad, I have 6 B-'s, 2 C+, and 1 C. Is that a bit too many low grades?

My overall percentage is pretty bad too. It's about ~3.3. Did anyone have crappy grade like mine and get into dental school without amazing extra curriculuar activities? Thanks!

Eric.

Maybe you should have studied more instead of posting 500+ on SDN
Joking. Dude, from what I was told dental school in the next couple of years is going to be more competitive than ever and so competitive means higher scores and overall criteria. Sorry man but if it were up to me, I would not accept you based on such grades because of the doubt of you being able to handle the amount of work in dental school. but your DAT is the only thing that can cover up your low grades, so aim for 22+ and then you are competing. Good luck

Those sound a lot like my scores. You would have done alright this year (assuming your DAt scores were good). I'm not sure how you would fare next year though.

I have taken the DAT yet. It's not really that I don't study enough. My biochem curriculum is brutally hard.

A 3.3 isnt bad at all..obviously its not good to have C's but if you have 3.3 then i assume you have a couple A's as well. as long as the overall result isnt so bad its not a panic situation. my overall is also B+..i have 3 C-'s but a lot of A's so it balances out

Keep your head up! Your stats are very similar to mine, i have had my share of a couple Cs but have alot of As as well... Just kick the DATs a$$, study hard, and learn the concepts, and u will be fine!

Phew...this was fairly relieving.
I am pretty much the same, 4 C-'s, many B's, and many A's. 4 years of undergrad averaged out to about gpa 3.4.
But i guess i still have to really ace the DAT to have a reasonable chance. Hmm..

hey driller, but I feel as Canadians our GPA should be higher than the Americans. Hope we can do well on the upcoming DAT? Btw, I also live in Vancouver. Do you go to UBC?

Ok sure you have some bad grades, and its true you must have some A's to balance it out for a 3.3, but all those A's in bird courses and all those C's in science courses???? Overall GPA doesnt matter if you are taking tons of bird courses and flunking your science courses.

Whats your science GPA?

actually my overall science % is 76.8%. That's around 3.3 I believe.

My program is very research focused. So we are required to take hardcore science courses from Calculus III to Advanced Organic Chem. That's why I am getting screwed over. I have only taken 3 art courses other than english courses.

grrr.. should have done a easir program other than Biochem. But oh well, what can I do. Just suck it up and own my last year.

Yep, i go to UBC too. You are in biochem? MICB & IMM here.
I know, UBC biochem IS truly a brutal program. I am not surprised about the 3 C's. Its no biggie with your relativaly heavy science course load.

Hey, does anyone know if there are any schools that want you to retake the courses you got Cs in? The response i'm getting from most schools is to take higher level sciences, but anyone know of any exceptions?

baby tooth, I think most school just ask you to take more high science courses.

driller, too bad that dental schools don't care the difficulty of the major.
