Hello All. I'll delete this soon. Haven't taken any of the required science courses yet, but was wondering if taking 2 sciences per semester too much? This is what I would be taking this Spring..... Organic Chemistry and Physics.

I'll delete this ASAP once I get a few inputs. Thanks a ton.

first...odd to tell us you're deleting this...any reason why?

Second, no two sciences are not too much to take in one semester. In fact, depending on your major, that may be too little. if you are a biochem major or bio or any science major, you will need to take more than 2 science courses a semester to graduate in 5 years or less...unless you have an oddly low # of science classes required for your science major.

If you are a non-science major, schools will want to see that you can handle a decent courseload of science courses all at one time. Consider having at least 1 semester with at least 3 science courses and 1 or 2 other courses to prove that you can handle the dental school 34 science credit units per semester courseload during the first couple years. Of course, temper your courseload to match your other issues, like # of hours at work or volunteering, and family, etc.

heheh... for my major I had all science classes almost every semester. It was nice to have one that was non-science. Besides, sometimes topics overlap so taking more science classes at once makes it all fresh in your mind.

and yeah why would u delete this?

In my opinion,
2 science classes per semester will not sufficiently prepare you for the rigors of D school.🙂

Ok thanks guys. I just wanted some input from others who have taken lots of science courses during a semester load. I know I could do it, just didn't wanna take too many or too less.

Also, I said "I'd delete this thread ASAP" because I don't wanna clog everything up. But I guess this could actually help others if I leave it.

Also, Personal Financial Planning isn't a good major is it? lol Because that's the major I've actually earned the most credits toward. I mean I could go for Finance major but I'd be here an extra year, lol.

Nothing wrong with Finance, it will help you when you become a dentist. You will know how to count all of your money.

I agree with all the posts above. Try to take a sufficient number of science class to prepare for dental school. And I would like to add that you should be careful about the workload. Balance it so that you maintain a decent GPA, b/c science classes tend to be harder than non-science classes.

GPA and DATs are key when applying to dental schools.

actually, if I could go back, I would major in financial planning or business management and take all the prereqs plus maybe 3-5 extra science courses to show I have a little more science under my belt.

Also, I wouldn't have stolen that car. jk😀

Science classes often complement each other, if they don't you have to think in the same way for each class. I am a senior right now and had took all my core classes first. Now I have a bunch of non-science classes I need for my degree and they are so annoying. They are easy but so boring I would rather take a 400 level bio/chem class then any 100 level phy/hist/engl class anyday. I really miss the days of cool classes like Biochem, cell, and molecular.

So, if you take only the "required" science classes, are you out of luck when it comes to applying to dental school? I thought they wanted you to major in something that you enjoyed and compliment it with the required courses.

lol, im sure you'll get your "high" when you get into dental school again..
