I have received an interview offer from the school which I had rated fourth of the five to which I applied. I've already done an interview at my #1 choice and I think my chances are pretty good but since I can't be absolutely sure until Dec 1, I don't want to "put all my eggs in one basket".
I wouldn't mind going to that school but its not at the top of my list.
My interview is scheduled for Sep 16th. How late can I wait to say no thanks without wasting the adcoms time (and possibly holding someone else's interview spot).

I'd go to the interview. You've already put your time into this whole process, you owe it to yourself to follow through.

I agree. Furthermore, interviews can really change your perception of a school. What might be #4 on your list can easily move up to #1 based on your interview experience. Not to mention that hunches and good feelings don't always play out to an expected outcome (e.g. an acceptance).
