Does anyone know what kind of tools and books are pretty essential for clinical rotations? I already have my stethoscope and a thermometer, but what else should I get?

Are there any good pocket references that I just have to have for rotations?

Bandage scissors, suture scissors, and a small notebook.

The small animal nerdbook is a good friend of mine.

I would add hemostats, small calculator and lots of pens! The small animal differential lists by thompson were helpful when I was just starting clinics. It fits nicely in a lab coat pocket. Also make sure the thermometer is a fast one ideally less than a minute it will save you tons of time over the course of the year. A small bright light is helpful for cranial nerves and a reflex hammer is also handy in ER and neurology.

We also got a PDF of common anesthesia premeds, induction drugs that I shrunk and laminated to have on hand--makes a nice quick reference so you don't have to go hunting for plumbs.
