I did not do good at all. Less than 20 higher than 14

I used bootcamp, several bio books, and CRACK DAT Software.

I did not think bootcamp's set up is at all similar to the DAT.

CRACK DAT Software is much more representative of the question types and overall experience as in the test format. I should of stuck with this software more!

I am really upset with my scores. I studied since the beginning of June, every Monday Tuesday and Wednesday were my days devoted to straight studying. All other days I was working and at night would do some PAT.

The week before the exam, mid August, I took a week off work to study straight through.

.........

The exam overall was very difficult. Math was unbelievable! I had trig questions related to arc-tangents.

Any questions or tips please post.

........

I did apply this cycle and plan to retake DAT in December or late November.

DAT BOOTCAMP really did not help at all.

......

And I was on a two week ban due to immature individuals on this site who take everything to heart.

You need to use more resources. Honestly, bootcamp and Crack the DAT alone for GC, OC, QR, and reading will not give you very good scores. Doing well requires loads of practice, and having these two resources simply isn't enough. Consider investing in DAT Destroyer, which has many many problems. Good luck!!!

The tone of your posts leading up to your DAT suggest that you were pretty confident about your exam.

Would be nice to see your actual scores, but whatever. With CRACK DAT, what did you end up scoring on the PAT portion? Just curious.

I was very confident...

I was expecting a minimum of 18.

And I got less!

Resources I used:
Chads:1x
Bootcamp
CRACK DAT
cliffs AP
BIO CAMPBELL
KAPLAN BB
BARRONS DAT
KHAN ACADEMY
CRAIG SAVAGE

........

For test #2
More CRACK DAT

MORE NOTE TAKING FOR BIO

I WILL BE TAKING ORGO2 for fall

AAhhh I am freaking out after reading your post. I am so nervous now ughhh. My DAT prep is mainly from Chad videos and DAT BOOTCAMP........and my exam is in 3 days!!!!!!!!!.....Did you take all the bootcamp practice exams?? If yes than what was your average?

Chads is very good for DAT

I don't like bootcamp anymore,
I was scoring and average of 17-20
Across the board.

I highly recommend destroyer!!!! And qvault for bio

I thought you were gonna kill it, but don't give up! Take it as a learning lesson, and just focus on changing what went wrong this time.

Don't take heart! You've got this, second time through!

I tried Crack Dat Sciences and I thought the content was highly off base from the real DAT, Bootcamp was much more representative in content.

I highly recommend qvault as well! one of the best question banks out there!

I thought was going to be lucky to kill it or at least make a 18

It is not easy to see low scores, I'm almost thirty years old, and I almost felt a droplet build up in my eye, I was so surprised, maybe possibly shocked!

I was like how can an individual study so much and not produce a good score. I was kinda ashamed, usually I do good on tests (good = score of 80+). And I work as an assistant to dentists, so imagine how I felt when I told them about my score!!!

:-(

But

Yes, i will take this a part of the learning experience.

I will begin studying again next week.

Monday- Thursday.

Work Friday- Sunday

And study pat FRIDAY - Sunday.

I just purchased

Cliffs ap biology flash cards.
I will keep some of these in my pocket

;-)

I absolutely agree with you!!! I studied for ~2.5 months and was bummed about my scores.

I used Barrons Bio, DAT BOOTCAMP, Chads for gen chem and various materials for math, PAT and RC.

BOOTCAMP can kiss my brown @$$. It buoyed me up with this sense that the DAT was going to be easier than I thought. It wasnt!! I nearly broke down an cried after the bio section because i was sure I did awful!

My bootcamp scores were always 19-24 all across the board and particularly 22-24 PAT.
Here were my actual scores:

BIO-18 :bang:
Gen Chem-17 :bang:
O Chem - 20
QR - 20
RC - 20
PAT - 20

TS-18
AA-19

I applied anyways this cycle. Im not sure how late is too late to take the DAT, but i figure if the rest of my application is good, I have a shot.
I have 100s of shadowing hours, have a 3.6 overall/3.55 sci and come from a minority background. Dentistry is something I'm passionate about and I REALLY hope that ADCOMs can see that. I care about the profession and about the people who need better access to it (like ppl here in Detroit!).

And at the end of the day, despite the naysayers, God is my guide and protector and He can make even the impossible possible.

I partially agree with the Bootcamp comment. It helped me on PAT, because Crack DAT was too easy. But all of my bio questions were more like CD than BC. Maybe the DAT has gotten more difficult or something, because a few years ago people were saying that CD was "too hard".

But with all honesty, the CRACK DAT set up is very similar to the actual exam set up, the colors, the sample questions, the blurriness!

My punch hole exam had 3 fold boxes and 4 hole punch box!!

Maybe we had the same test. LOL. Did your cubes have illusions? 2 of my cubes where optical illusions! Couldn't even tell where one cube ended and the other was! Bootcamp didn't prepare me for those! 🙁

I had a hurricane story and stomache something story

And key hole had huge rock shaped shapes

And arc-tangent questions

I had similar reading passages too.. Math was def difficult.

Sucks right!

I am thinking about getting an audit and complain that the test was exceptionally difficult and to reevaluate my score.

(Seems immature or not right, but since the percentile scoring has been removed, I feel like if percentile was available it would balance out the low dat score)

Opinions?

You can try, but I don't think it will change anything and will be a waste of money and time. A lot of other ppl get hard tests too and still do okay. I too believe our versions of the test was hard no doubt. I almost cried reading the first passage (something about atoms), the biology section was BS.. Nothing like dat bootcamp at all, I also went through destroyer biology and still did below average in bio. Other than math, reading, and bio I did okay in the others three sections. I'm surprised I scored what I did in pat. I remember that rock structure.. Other than that, let me know what you end up doing with the audit.

Yea the atom with the colors right

...,

Ok I'll update about the audit, if I do it.

I am waiting for aadsas to receive dat score

...

But why was it so difficult and nothing like bootcamp and why are our experience so much different from others on this site?

Those questions make me want to do the audit.

.....

I kinda feel like that exam was like a prototype type of exam with high difficulty?

No?

Either way I have to probably retake

Erg

The Bio on my test sucked. I agree with BC not being so much like it, I found it somewhere between Qvault and BC. Qvault had a lot of left field questions though.

Well we don't know if it was that difficult because we haven't retake it and compare. Idk we can't change the cards we are dealt )8 it could be a prototype exam or it could have been we studied the wrong thing and had bad luck.

True....,

Very true

Hey tooth you may want to get the audit now if you do because they take a while usually 3 or more weeks from most people I talk to

If I do the audit now, my scores will not post to aadsas....

What happens to those whom had there exam scores audited?

The ppl you know of....

Oh I'm talking about how long it takes AADSAS to receive the scores I don't know about the audit process and also I'm really sorry you didn't do so hot on your DAT I thought you were gearing up to do great! Also I was sad to see you get banned also! Hang in there man! I have some killer Orgo II notes that I took last year that I scan to you if you want them what book does your teacher use?

You are too kind.....

Thank you...

I have Orgo by Smith...

I also just ordered cliffs Orgo 2 book.

That's the book I used I can definitely scan and email you the study sheets I made! It's chapter by chapter too!

I feel honored and I do respect your gesture of you wanting to share your notes, but i know myself and probably will learn better from doing everything from scratch.

It would be nice to be with a classmate like you,

sharing is caring.

If you think auditing your exam will work in your favor,

Why the hell would you audit the exam?

I do not mean to be rude but what do you expect an audit to accomplish? What are you going to tell them, that your test was too hard? That it wasn't like other people's exams? And what are they going to do? Raise your score because they feel bad for you? You said it yourself. An audit in this situation would be completely uncalled for, immature, and childish.

Just throwing my opinion at you.

That is exactly what I want to happen.

Seriously, you're trying to point fingers at a standardized test? Sorry, but this is just a waste of your time as well as everyone else's. It's good to hear you are not giving up, do some review, change some things up if you really didn't study as efficiently or as hard as you said you had, and you'll do great.

I'm not pointing fingers, but I do believe that the DAT scoring system has its flaws.

Hey, maybe, and possibly I did do that bad..... But still believe that the test I took was exceptionally difficult.

Who has had arc-tangent questions on the QR?

I'm waiting until I get my grade posted... I have 30days from when I took the exam to ask for an audit...

I had a bunch of arc tangents as practice during Math Destroyer.

I had circles and ellipses on my real QR and many people didn't have those. I find these difficult

I definetely agree with td21. Your test honestly sounds pretty standard. Arctan is a very basic concept it's just the inverse of the tangent function. I had an Arctan question on my exam. Maybe study trig some more for the next exam? I think you can definitely take it up a level for the retake. Don't settle until you are getting 20s across the board on all practice exams. I would invest in destroyer as well. Good luck!

They look difficult but the methods on solving them are in Destroyer. I made the mistake of thinking Destroyer was harder than the actual QR so I didn't bother touching it after I took 1-10 a month before my exam.

It's unfortunate that you didn't do as well as hoped, but I don't think an audit is going to get you anywhere. Keep your head up, read more breakdowns, and come up with a better study approach. I can say that from all the research I've done on this site, bootcamp is highly recommended. Maybe it's the way you approached using it?

My fiancee took the DAT this month and used bootcamp, Chad's, feralis, Cliff's, 07, and 09. She scored 21+ and said bootcamp and Chad's were the best at preparing her. However, her approach to using it may have differed from yours. She took a few tests from bootcamp two weeks before the actual DAT. Then, she studied ALL the topics she missed, not just the questions. She repeated this until, a few days before the test, she could do most problems/topics in bootcamp without issue. When she started she was scoring 17's in most sections...

Regarding arctan, she had two on her test.

Just another reason why Math Destroyer is awesome for the qr portion. It's difficult, but prepares you well so that most questions are relatively easy, and even the difficult ones are solvable because you've been exposed to similar types of questions in Destroyer

My tips for you:

For GC/OC/BIO
Re-watch the chad's videos taking notes on EVERYTHING. Supplement this with his quizzes. For bio start off by reading 1 chapter a day from cliffs. After you've gone through cliffs and mapping out the chapters while linking things together start to go through Ferralis notes. Again link things together and make connections. Start to supplement with destroyer.

Do 30 GC, 30 OC, 40 Bio everyday or every second day then review these afterwards very very carefully until you have gone through it once. You'll prob only be getting 50% right this go through. Now go through them again a second time -- should be getting at least 90% right this time.

You should be ready to dominate GC/OC after doing so. Supplement them with Bootcamp as much as you say you hate it -- it is similar (even slightly harder). Make sure you LEARN your mistakes.

After doing destroyer for BIO go through the Qvault quizzes 1-2 per day while again revisiting all your errors. Supplement again with Bootcamp. As you are learning from your mistakes you should also be going through Ferralis one more time. Now you should be ready to dominate Bio.

For QR
Re-watch Chad's videos. You must do Math destroyer it is easily the closest thing to the exam. You will suffer on these and it will take you longer than 45 minutes. As you progress from the first exam to about the fourth exam slowly bring the time needed down towards 45. Again always learn from your mistakes and re-visit what you are doing wrong. Utilize the calculator to make sure you are always correct if you are unsure of yourself (just get proficient with it -- it doesn't slow you down too much).

For RC
Bootcamp is easily the closest thing (but even then much harder). Use it.

For PAT
I'd recommend starting with CRACK DAT PAT. If you wanna score well on the exam you should be scoring in the 23+ here. Utilize the random generators on bootcamp to supplement any poor section. Make yourself suffer with the questions. Learn the techniques, and get your timing down.

If you know the material and you have your timing down it should not matter how difficult the questions are. You should be able to do them.

PM if you need anything else.

I had a hurricane story and stomache something story

And key hole had huge rock shaped shapes

And arc-tangent questions

I had those exact same reading passages and arc tan questions on my DAT in June. Do you remember a bio question about the secretory phase of the menstrual cycle? If so, then we had the exact same test.

In any case, using for the most part the same resources you have access to, I scored a 30 TS 30 GC 30 Bio 29 OC. While my bootcamp scores were generally lower than my actual scores, my crack dat scores were way off base. I agree with the people that say that crack dat science, especially bio, is way too specific. I tried a crack dat bio section after having scored a 30 on the real thing, and I got a 16. The questions are way too detailed, and crack dat will have you convinced that you are never ready.

It's just my opinion, but I really do feel that bootcamp science questions were closer to the real thing. In fact, I got a meniscus problem in GC on the real thing which I wouldn't have known how to do if not for the few meniscus problems in bootcamp.

How were you using your practice tests? Maybe the problem isn't so much the tests but how you used them? I used bootcamp and qvault for my practice tests. While I did use them to kinda see where I was at, I retook every test and question in science and math that I didn't get 100% correct. I would retake a section with any mistakes the next day and repeat the process until I scored 100% correct. I did the same thing with all the extra science questions in qvault in their question bank (questions not in their practice tests) and chad's quizzes. I also used my mistakes to guide my studying e.g if I scored something wrong on kidney function, I'd brush up on kidneys. By the week of my DAT, I could get every single question in my practice tests, chad's quizzes, cliff/Barron's AP bio, and question banks 100% correct not including pat or rc. Theoretically, this could be done with destroyer as well, but I felt at the time that destroyer was overkill. While I really think all the practice tests used by sdners minus the Ada ones are harder than the real thing, I found that this was particularly true of destroyer and crack dat science (so much so with crack dat science that I really don't think the software is useful).

I highly recommend ari's study schedule from bootcamp supplemented with extra practice from qvault. For the most part I followed ari's schedule minus the reading and vision games. After finishing his schedule and all my practice tests, I added an extra week to review my test material in the manner described above. I think most sdners find the real dat easier than bc and qvault practice tests because of the review after the practice tests, not because bc or qvault is significantly harder than the real thing.

I would watch chads again and do the dat destroyer if you can. It's overkill but it does help.
Also there's an Anki version of feralis notes- try that.

Sorry to hear you got such a difficult version but hopefully your next attempt will be much better!

I haven't read other people's replies but Chad's videoes literally saved my life. I learned all the basics from him so other study materials were not as frustrating. I would also recommend do the destroyer, even though those problems are really tough, they will really help you understand the concepts as a whole. Good luck!

Here is my 2 cents. It's not the end of the world!!! Use more resources. In addition to what you have use cliff notes 3rd edition, ferallis notes, chad videos and destroyer ( both).
Then when you feel comfortable take practice tests. If you want the ADA to audit your scores on the basis that their scoring system is not fair, then it wont happen!!!!

take a break and get back to it.
good luck

Bootcamp isn't supposed to be used as your main study tool it's not that good.

Use Destroyer/KBB/Cliff's/Chad's to learn the info then Bootcamp to test it.

Also, to the guy in here that said Bootcamp had a lot of the problems the DAT had, you got lucky as hell. I only saw one problem that was similar, all the others were completely different.
